It might not go down as the best Harry Potter video game ever, but it offers some stretches of fun that you won’t find anywhere else, and the guess here is that Jam City will be dreaming up more to throw into its world for some time to come.

The visuals are okay, and the sound is great. The on-rails experience means you aren't going to get lost or confused, and always know where to go or what to do next. I like the mini-games for casting spells, making potions, and dueling since they have intuitive controls. Tough choices are going to be made, and I like that it affects the dynamic storyline. I just wish that the timers and energy system weren't the way they are, and that customization options were a bit cheaper.

Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery is very interesting for casual gamers and fans of the series. But the gameplay lacks potential and the game is frustrating when asking you to wait or pay for energy. The game has a lot of content, but it only succeeds in killing time.

We can see an interesting story inside Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery and a good amount of fanservice for the series' lovers, but its freemium model destroys almost everything.

At the beginning it's a pretty enjoyable experience, but after a short while you realize it's a pretty simple game with a very obvious focus on in-app purchases.

There's a great and interesting game buried inside Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, but its energy system ultimately kills it.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts mystery could be a decent game, but its intrusive microtransactions make it difficult to recommend even to die-hard Harry Potter fans.

Too slow and based on micropayments to be really entertaining.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is a dull game with a great concept, made borderline unplayable by its hyper-aggressive monetisation.

Despite a magical setting and engaging premise, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery’s abhorrent microtransactions drain almost all life out of this mobile RPG.

A complete and utter disappointment, and not a good start for the Portkey Games label. The game fails to take player choice into account in any meaningful way, the gameplay is shallow, and its free-to-play model is designed to frustrate and bore players into buying microtransactions.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery has no magic. It has no fun. It almost has no game. It is a blatant money grab that soils this likable universe. If you want more Harry simply go back to one of the books or movies. There is nothing for you here.

More slot machine than it is video game. If you have oodles of cash you want to throw away then give it a look; otherwise, steer well clear.

Not so much a video game as a shameful attempt to convince children to spend their parents’ money on expensive microtransactions.

This is nothing but a terrible cash grab with many timers and paywalls. Merely 10minutes into the game you will hit the Devils Snare and your first 20-30minute paywall. 5mins of playing after that you will hit flying school which is a paywall lasting multiple several hour periods. In short advancing in this game would require a HUGE amount of gems. We are talking $1-2 per MINUTE of gameplay.

This is a shockingly bad cashgrab in a poorly designed game with BARELY ANY content. This can probably safely join the ranks of the worst mobile games to ever hit market. It's just sad that it uses the Harry Potter license.

And sadly, the rest of the game - while showing some promising nuances and Harry Potter-flair are far from exceptional enough to make up for this.

    Really a wasted opportunity.

It's boring, ugly, and it forces some of the most egregious micro-transactions ever onto you. The game literally chokes your avatar until you pay up, or you have to wait 20 freaking minutes. And right after that the game makes you wait hours in total to get through the first year alone. Don't give a single bit of attention to this game. Full Review »
