Fish Out of Water from Halfbrick's core mechanic is fun to play, but it is far from the endless replayability that came along with Fruit Ninja or Jetpack Joyride.

If anything, Fish Out of Water! proves that oftentimes, the simplest ideas fuel the best games. We've yet to decide where it ranks among Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, but one thing is certain, you'll be hooked.

Fish Out of Water is a laid-back, gorgeous game that's ideal for relaxing on the beach.

If you're looking for a new time waster, Fish Out of Water is a decent experience, despite its lack of depth. If you require something with a little more meat on its bones, feel free to wait, because in all likelihood, just like Jetpack Joyride, this will go free at some point given the fact that in-app-purchases are already featured.

A casual affair featuring uniquely-skilled fish, quirky missions, and powerful gem combos, Fish Out Of Water! should feel right at home on any young gamer’s mobile device.

Despite the wavering longevity of Fish Out of Water, the cutesy fish-hopper is still a very welcomed addition to Halbrick’s impressive roster of casual arcade games, and I can see Olympus the goldfish and all the rest of his fishy friends making a real splash on the App Store for some time to come. Just don’t try and skip a fish across the water in real life!

A game that's simple to pick up but requires some practice, Fish Out Of Water! is an enjoyable sea creature-flinging romp.

It doesn’t have that same finger-licking, addictive goodness found in Halfbrick's previous hits Jetpack Joyride or Fruit Ninja, but Fish Out of Water is as casual as casual gets, which makes it fun right from the get go. This also means that it loses some of its charm after the first hour or two due to a lack of gameplay variety.

Fish Out of Water won't be remembered amongst Halfbrick's best efforts: it's just a small cute game with too little content, even for its low price.

I respect Halfbrick as one of the developers responsible for shaping the current state of mobile gaming, but Fish Out Of Water is a barebones offering that sinks rather than swims.

I had fun with it for maybe a dozen sessions spanning a total of a couple of hours.

Fish Out of Water! is still a fun pick up and play game, but after five minutes you have essentially seen everything the game has to offer. Like the game's title, Halfbrick may have stepped out of its natural element with this game, and the result is gasping desperately for air.

Laudably unique and pleasing in short bursts, Fish Out of Water falls short of warranting long-term attachment.

Fish Out Of Water! has an immediate and friendly appeal to its simple gameplay, but a polished interface is not enough to disguise the lack of variety in the gameplay itself - what should be a more-ish 'just one more go' system is buried under a system that rewards luck as much as skill.
