    A standard card-battler with a shooting gallery element tacked on, Deadman's Cross doesn't do enough to distinguish it from other titles, but what it does do, it does well enough.

    If you enjoyed Guardian Cross or really have a thing for zombies, there’s a good chance you’ll really like Deadman’s Cross. Otherwise it probably won’t hold your interest for very long.

    Deadman's Cross fuses a zombie-driven FPS with card-based battle gameplay. It's just a shame that some of this play is automated and needs a persistent internet connection.

    Having so many rivals on the App Store, Square Enix should have tried a little harder. There are many other options better than this repetitive and kind of boring experience.

    Deadman’s Cross may technically be free-to-play, but it will cost you precious minutes and hours that would be better spent doing damn near anything.

    Deadman's Cross is brought to us by the same team that made Guardian Cross. It's a fun little collectible card game with some shooting elements. It has some nice art, but the gameplay is a lot simpler than it may seem at first.

    Fighting is done automatically between your deck and theirs, with a feeding mechanic (sacrifice your cards to make another card stronger) but no evolution mechanic. In the hunting section, you'll find zombies randomly spawning in your area, with the player having to shoot up as many as they can and keeping all the zombies that they do kill. There is a vulnerability system which guarantees a 1-shot-kill if you hit it when it's vulnerable. However, this vulnerability seems to be completely random and thus is based on pure luck whether you will save the time of a few shots or not. Same with the +10 seconds powerup zombies; they seem to spawn completely randomly.

    It is very difficult to find good cards in the standard hunting mode. For a much better chance of getting the best cards, the player may spend the paid currency for a premium hunt, which guarantees zombie spawns of a certain grade or higher. However, this does not give paid players a huge advantage as it is possible to earn the same currency relatively easily through quests. Players will also get 1 free normal hunt per day; otherwise it requires an item that can be earned easily through questing or searching.

    There is also PVP in this game, in which your rank is decided by your overall position in the entire league. Once time runs out, pvp is temporarily disabled and the rewards are given out based on your rank. This may present problems if players play a lot to rapidly ascend in ranking in only the last few minutes or so, making other players who would have gotten, say, an A rank reward get only B+ instead.

    One feature to take note of is that this game has an energy system that limits your "search quests" (aka adventure mode) and offers you the chance to earn energy potions through quests or direct purchase.    … Full Review »
