The thing I love about this game, aside from the awesome vintage graphics and soundtrack, is the fact that there are no in-app purchases to be found. The game is just purely a beat-em-up with responsive controls and is a joy to play.

    We wouldn't mind a few additional events or set-pieces. [Feb 2013, p.93]

    There's a lot of charm. [Feb 2013, p.31]

Beatdown is over too quickly, lacks challenge and is just a little too plain to recommend wholeheartedly. The basic jumping & punching and varied environments & enemies feel more like the foundation for a half-finished title rather than a polished game ready for release.

Has a clever plot and some whimsical characters, but it lacks a lot in the important areas. While $0.99 isn't that much to pay for a game, players do expect some sort of return in the form of challenging gameplay and enough content to distract them for hours. Sadly, Beatdown! doesn't provide much in these two areas that will give players much of an ROI.

Beatdown! may not go down as the most complex of beat'em-ups, but if all you want is a straight up brawler then you can't go wrong with the streamlined action it contains.

While Beatdown is high on nostalgia, it is hard to play it without wishing it had released on nearly any other gaming platform.
