Jun 24, 2011It's gorgeous, it's immersive, and most of all, it's an enormous amount of fun. While a multiplayer mode is sadly absent, the achievements and single-player story alone should be more than enough to make this title worth your while.

Jun 24, 2011BackStab is without question one of the prettiest iPhone and iPad games we've seen, full of gorgeous set pieces, impressive water and fire effects and detailed characters. It might as well be Pirates of the Caribbean, minus Captain Jack Sparrow.
-
Jun 24, 2011BackStab is less assassin and more rogue in its approach to open-world action, but if you're simply after a skull-cracking romp you'll get your full share here.
-
Jul 6, 2011All of it is intriguing, interesting, and enjoyable; there's nothing like it on the App Store. It is a little repetitive though, and the graphics and animations really keep it back from being named one of the best on the App Store.
-
Jun 24, 2011BackStab manages to capture much of what makes the Assassin's Creed games so great.
-
Jul 5, 2011If you've been desperately craving an Assassin's Creed game set in an 18th Century pirate wonderland to play on the go, this will do the trick, but don't expect too much from it. If you can deal with all the bugs, you'll certainly be taken on a bizarre ride and you'll have a ton of stuff to do in the world.
-
Jun 29, 2011Clearly taking its inspiration from Assassin's Creed, with a bit of GTA sprinkled in for good measure, BackStab creates a mish-mash of genres that offer an interesting experience that lacks cohesion.
-
Jun 29, 2011The lack of fidelity in the controls can be a bit frustrating, but these issues usually resolve themselves quickly enough to get on with enjoying the game. The story is fairly entertaining, but the real joy of this game comes from a depth not often seen in iOS games.
-
Jun 27, 2011Backstab isn't a bad game, but it's not the hit that was excepted. Full of promise - and actually packing plenty of content and a lengthy storyline - the game is hindered by unpolished development that leaves the experience with notable bugs.
-
CD-ActionAug 2, 2011Assassin's Creed meets Grand Theft Auto in the world of Pirates of the Caribbean and tells the story with Uncharted's flair. No, it's too good to be true. Simple gameplay mechanics, plain character models with lifeless faces, weak voice acting, faulty camera and bugs make BackStab a disappointment. [August 2011, p.74]
-
Jun 29, 2011BackStab sails on restless oceans, thrown about by ropey controls and annoying bugs, but it remains a swashbuckling romp that will appeal to fans of Captain Jack Sparrow and his kin – if they can stay the course, that is.
-
Jun 29, 2011Fundamentally Gameloft need to focus more on the story delivery, pacing, and most importantly remove the shackles of the helping hand, to give gamers more exploration and a feeling of achievement.
-
Jun 25, 2011Quotation forthcoming.
-
Jun 29, 2011BackStab could be an unimaginative yet decent action adventure game, but it's ultimately flawed by an unacceptable series of bugs.
-
Jun 29, 2011It's ambitious to say the least. But I think to a large extent the game's engine gets in its own way far too often. There were numerous times I saw characters get stuck or fall through the ground, or mission objectives simply not appear.
-
Jun 29, 2011Backstab's lengthy campaign just isn't fun due to the sheer repetitiveness of its missions and dullness of its combat.
