It’s a must-play word game with an adorable visual style and plenty of incentive to keep you coming back because the quest for bears is noble and just, especially when they’re this cute.

At its core, AlphaBear isn't dramatically different from most other letter games, but between its few gameplay twists, the rewarding collection mechanic, and its infectiously silly and fun-loving nature, it's an easy game to fall for.

I mean its a game, why would I do vocabulary games when I have free time? Then these bears won me over with their damningly cute eyes and bonuses that make the game more fun. If you use letters around the bear, they grow bigger and the bonuses you get at the end increases.

New challenge events seem to occur on a time limited basis and there are also different events and levels that appear according to the weekday. That's right, today is “Sunday Delight”: You have 90 seconds to get as many points as possible and the letters “W, O, R, K” are unavailable because it is Sunday...I really appreciate the pun.

It is a nice game to play when you’re on your way to work or just want to kill some time. If you’re vocabulary-challenged then stay clear away because it does require some thinking. However, it gets so satisfying because you get to collect bears with better stats.

All this gushing about bears and spelling aside, this is a fantastic game for people who enjoy word games and have the patience to sit there and think of obscure words. I see Alphabear as a rising star in the world of mobile word games.

They've made it all but impossible to obtain the highest value bears (which are necessary to advance through the chapters) without purchasing virtual "coins" for cash (and a lot of it) or waiting days upon days to "earn" them. My protest to the developers fell on deaf ears which leads me to believe they are much more interested in obtaining cash than providing a satisfying user experience. Don't waste your time. Expand
