It's a classic and beloved game that kick-started the survival horror genre. Even though it looks quite dated on the iOS, the original Alone in the Dark is a game every fan of horror games should try.

We still love Edward Carby and Alone in The Dark, but the nostalgia effect is powerless against its sloppy control system.

Time has taken its toll on Alone in the Dark, but having it available on iOS is still a good choice for those who want to relive the original experience.

Lovecraft fans will get a kick out of the references to the horror maestro's body of work that are scattered throughout the mansion as well. From Deep One through Necronomicon it's all there. As primitive as the game is by modern standards, Alone in the Dark is a true classic, and for a dollar or so on the iOS it's well worth playing, either for nostalgia value or to experience the very formation of the horror genre.

Not even the deeply ingrained nostalgia over one of the world’s earliest “Survival Horror” games is enough to make this port worthwhile.

Alone in the Dark was a precursor game but this version was not made correctly for iOS devices. Don't buy it!

However, what is also brings back are the difficult controls, which definitely aren't made any easier on an iPad or iPhone. Would've been nice if they would have improved the controls or at least gave some options, but then it wouldn't stay true to the original, so I guess you can't have both. Other than that, it's just like I remember it: slow moving, cool, and hard as hell! Worth a buck! Full Review »
