The game looks great, is simple to pick up and play and it takes a while to see everything should you decide to uncover all of the characters, cards and storylines.
-
Fighting game loyalists may want to steer away, but anyone looking to thrash perky and magically endowed creatures may find enjoyment in the world of Zatch Bell!
-
Play MagazineHmmm, do I smell yet another Bandai anime-based fighting game? Indeed I do and again it's all that and a trip to the fruity farm... [Nov p.94]
-
The whole thing is very goofy, funny, weird, and cute... If you're looking for a fast-paced, simple fighter with appealing graphics and an unusual sense of humor, Zatch Bell! is definitely worth your time.
-
While Zatch Bell! Mamodo Battles may be a lot of fun, especially for any Zatch Bell fan, it fails to be more than a button-masher.
-
Nintendo PowerThe game looks great, but it's shallower than fighter fans might hope for. [Dec 2005, p.122]
-
If the characters were anywhere close to balanced, or if it were four-player or had some other awesome redeeming quality, I could recommend Zatch Bell, but the value is just not there.
-
A nice visual and audible replication of the anime, but it still lacks the in-depth story of a true anime.
-
The gameplay feels like someone tried to mix the gameplay of "Super Smash Brothers" with that of a more traditional 3D fighter and gave up half-way through, while the design of story mode is likely confusing and potentially frustrating for the younger crowd.
-
As far as we can tell, Mamodo Battles was made for stupid, uncoordinated kids with poor taste in gaming and a big love of all things Zatch Bell!
