The lack of a strong storyline or multiplay hurt the game, though, as do the controller options, which leave you with a choice between the far too simplistic and the overly complex.
-
Entertaining at times, frustrating at others, Top Gun never really picks gamers up and takes them away.
-
The graphics vary wildly from very nice when youre up high doing a bombing run to absolutely horrible when you get near the ground what the hell is pop-up doing on a Gamecube?
-
Game InformerIt's as easy to put down as it is to pick up. [Nov 2002, p.134]
-
Nintendo PowerPlay control is pretty good, although your plane is very slow to turn and maneuver. [Aug 2002, p.144]
-
Play MagazineThe tuning issues associated with the PS2 version have been ironed out and the overall presentation - frame-rate, control, balance, etc. - have all been aptly tweaked for the GameCube version. [Nov 2002, p.96]
-
Overall, gameplay is its strength, but overall, it doesnt seem to be up to par with its competitors, especially when drawing a player in.
-
An average game, which could have been improved with better mission structure, variety and additional modes.
