    What I consider to be one of, if not THE greatest fighting game to ever grace not just the Gamecube, but the fighting genre as a whole. Super Smash Bros. Melee achieves something that all fighting games wish to achieve: lasting fun. This game has aged without a wrinkle in the past 12 years it's been out. Nintendo couldn't even beat their own lasting appeal of this game with Brawl (which IWhat I consider to be one of, if not THE greatest fighting game to ever grace not just the Gamecube, but the fighting genre as a whole. Super Smash Bros. Melee achieves something that all fighting games wish to achieve: lasting fun. This game has aged without a wrinkle in the past 12 years it's been out. Nintendo couldn't even beat their own lasting appeal of this game with Brawl (which I thought was a bit too slow). From the moment the amazing opening is played, to your very last GAME, this is a classic for the ages. Not only is the gameplay quick, but it's easy to pick up and play, and the intentionally made technical tricks in the game make it the most versatile fighting game to date. Your ability to gain more skill in this game is practically unlimited in this game. You aren't restricted with the movements of your character. You can reduce your recoil when you hit the ground, slide around the floor, and string combos around in the most creative ways if your good enough. The music is fantastic. Really legendary in the video game environment, right down to the announcer's voice when you begin and end a game. The Adventure mode is perhaps the perfect distraction in single player sector, but while memorable, it's more of an imperfection that we soon come to see improved in the next game. Event matches are a blast, and personally I find them a little more fun than Brawl's. It's creative how Nintendo can fit so many neat modes in this game. Their's slow melee, lighting melee, big, tiny, etc. The photo feature in the game is the most useless addition however, as you can't take pictures unless you choose the mode and plan something to happen. This is another feature that's fixed in the next generation. Still this is the most solid fighting game I have ever played and is a blast to play with friends and family alike. Also, I would like Nintendo to bring back the old handicap system. It's much more fun to gang up on someone with naturally more strength than you, instead of just some percentage starter. If you have a Gamecube, PLAY THIS GAME NOW! This is a gleaming emerald in the tropical sun, as far as fighting games go. Do yourself a favor and find some friends to play this tonight.     This game is a prime example of doing a sequel right. Take all the elements of the first game, refine them to near perfection while adding lots of new stages, characters, trophies, gameplay modes and extras. Really, there's no flaw with this game. It's just an all around amazing fighting game that you shouldn't miss.

    In my opinion, this is the best fighting game ever made. It came out in 2001 and is STILL being played competitively in tournaments! This was the first game I ever played at a tournament, and still continue to play it to this day. It has the best mechanics, the best atmosphere, and the best replay-ability in the Smash Bros. series. 10/10

    This is by far the greatest game Nintendo have ever made and my favourite video game of all time. I played for game for countless hours and never got bored of it. I have played Brawl, it is very good as well but it's a little bit disappointing compared to it's predecessor. No other video game will top a game for many years to come, not even FIFA or Call of Duty will be able to do that.

    Not much to say. You can play this game for years and it won't get old (multiplayer, that is). And there's always a way to improve your skills or learn a new combo your friends didn't expect.

Melee" is MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE GAME OF ALL-TIME! There, I said it. No game has taken more hours out of my life than this masterpiece, and I'm perfectly fine with that. It's extremely fun, fast-paced, visually wonderful, filled with content,I'm not even gonna dance around it, I'm not going to give an intro that leads into my opinions, I'm just gonna lay it out there now, "Super Smash Bros. Melee" is MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE GAME OF ALL-TIME! There, I said it. No game has taken more hours out of my life than this masterpiece, and I'm perfectly fine with that. It's extremely fun, fast-paced, visually wonderful, filled with content, and surprisingly technical. There's a reason this game still has a passionate tournament scene 15 years later: because it's just that good! No two ways about it, "Super Smash Bros.     Super smash bros melee is an incredible game with tons of stuff to do It makes the original look thin Tons of unlockables. Even the single player it's deep and filled with stuff to do But the multiplayer is even more cuztomizable 26 characters and 29 stages I recommend you to buy it now

SSB is truly a masterpiece, and is often ranked and praised as the greatest game that was released for the Nintendo GameCube.     The best game on the GameCube hands down. It's better then Metroid Prime, it's better than Resident Evil 4, it is the best game on the GameCube. It is one of my all time favorite games. Everything about this game is great. If you have a GameCube and you don't have this game, you are missing out.

    this game is "good", it has alot of content, the gameplay is very fun and addictive, theres a good roster, but i think they need to make a one character per franchise rule, theres 4 mario characters, but one kirby character?, the programmers of the game program the kirby games, so what the heck?, also if your like me and your coming from capcom fighters like MvC2, this game is VERY hard tothis game is "good", it has alot of content, the gameplay is very fun and addictive, theres a good roster, but i think they need to make a one character per franchise rule, theres 4 mario characters, but one kirby character?, the programmers of the game program the kirby games, so what the heck?, also if your like me and your coming from capcom fighters like MvC2, this game is VERY hard to get use to, but still fun… Expand

    Add a bunch more characters on one of the best, and of the few, gamecube games that were created. The list of characters is great. I remember getting this as a kid and playing with my brother and friends for hours. The graphics today are not bad and the game play additions and all the added items add to the mix of madness fun that you would expect from a sequel to the great N64 game.

    I only put this down because of the HORRIBLE AI. Its one of the worst in a fighting game ever. Other than that, this was a wonderfully crafted game and deserves to be called the best Super Smash Bros. game ever. If you have a GameCube and don't have Melee, your missing out.

    Super Smash Bros. Melee is one of the best games for any Nintendo franchises. This game brings together many of Nintendo's favorite characters for a great competitive and party style game. Overall, it is a classic game that many still enjoy.

    I've only played the game a few times but this is super enjoyable, especially when with 2 or more players. The Graphics are great for a 2001 game. The gameplay is great. This is a most own even though though its over 10 years old.

    It's a fun game, and much better than the Nintendo 64 release. It isn't as good as some of the newer games, but it is definitely fun. The graphics aren't top-notch, and there are some exploits used widely by "hardcore players" but otherwise, it's great.

    I found this game in my loft and thought i'd give it ago not expecting much, 5 hours later, i realised that this game just worked its way into my top 5 games of all time. It becomes more and more addictive every time you play it, with unique attacks to every (i don't know the correct term) champion.     This game was the **** back in the day! I mained Marth and Captain Falcon. My favorite maps are Mute City, Pokemon Stadium, and the Hyrule Castle map. Do yourself a favour and get this game if you have a Gamecube, or Wii with backward compatibility

    This game is a masterpiece. The best thing I ever did was to get into competitive melee. Everymatch is different and the gameplay never gets old. This game is getting more and more popular as time goes on and theres a good reason for it. If you don't have a copy of it I 100% recommend it. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

The combat is very quick, and there are many stages and characters to unlock.     Tras el primer Super Smash Bros jamás pensé que un videojuego me iba a dar tantas tardes reunidas con mis amigos en mi casa, obra maestra de la consola GameCube que sin lugar a dudas se convierte en mi juego de ¨lucha¨ favorito, desde entonces el resto me ha sabido a poco.

    Its a fun game, buts nowhere near as good as Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Biggest gripes is the character feel like bricks, they don't feel "floaty" enough.

    A great improvement over the N64 Smash. Great graphics and incredible fast-paced gameplay that make people choose this Smash over the newer ones. The best multiplayer game on the Gamecube.

    El mejor Smash Bros de todos. He tenido la suerte de poder haber jugado a todos los Smash Bros que han salido al mercado, desde el de la Nintendo 64 hasta la versión de Wii U y Nintendo 3DS, y desde luego para mi gusto, el mejor ha sido el de la Game Cube. Si te gustan los juegos de lucha, no dudes en jugar este, no te arrepentirás.

    This game is great! Good single player, great multiplayer, interesting items for super fun casual play, and the fastest and most competitive game at the same time. My only gripe is that it can be somewhat difficult to learn compared to other smash games.

    Very fun even still in 2021. It not only has a high nostalgic factor. But still has a great competitive scene. Way more fun to play then Smash Ultimate too. Great and Classic Smash experience.

    I enjoyed it especially with friends . I liked the gameplay and the mechanics are great. The knocking-out-the-stage mechanic is my favorite. The solo adventure is also good. This game is far from a masterpiece but its great set of characters, the feeling of adventure, and its minimal amount of microtransactions easily makes it a great game.

    First, to have fun in the best way possible: no items legal stage only, 4 stocks, 8 minuts. Of course this is my opinion. But this is the best smash game competitively. It is a great game to play if u have technical skills and it is the best Smash game to watch. It may look outdated but that should definitely not bother you.

    bruuuh i haven't taken a shower in like 6 months because i'm trying to do these epic fox wavedashes on the 3 stages that aren't banned by the community. man i just love the odor when i go to melee tournaments, sometimes i even don't pass out. now please excuse me, i need to go on my daily rant about how i hate every game that isn't melee.

    This game helped move the Smash Bros franchise to where it is today. It increased the roster, adding fan favorites that were destined to return, even if they were left out in Brawl. It is an awesome party game, or just one to calm down with after a long day.

It’s remarkable how Masahiro Sakurai and his team at HAL Laboratories were able to make such a massive leap forward from the original to this one, and in such a short period of time at that. Melee was the reason for people to grab a GameCube, and it became the highest selling game for the console at over 7 Million units. In every single facet is this game an improvement from the original. The fighting mechanics, the visuals, the content. Melee’s got it all and then some. There’s a good reason why people still fondly look back on Melee and still play it to this very day.

    Melee’s presentation is the most obvious upgrade. It’s amazing how in just two short years the N64 original can look so dated in comparison. The character models look great, there are lots of neat little environmental details, and it all runs at a pristine 60 FPS with no hiccups. The game also supports a fantastic soundtrack full of great remixes and original compositions that remain staples to the series to this day. Sure, there are dated aspects to the character models and some parts of the game look kind of gross, but those are very minor issues compared to how much care went into this game.

    More importantly, though, gameplay has been upgraded considerably. It’s functionally the same as the original, where you pick a Nintendo icon and duke it out using a few buttons to pull off different maneuvers and knock opponents off the screen. The fighting feels much faster and smoother, demanding better responses from players. It’s a much more hectic experience, and in multiplayer it’s an absolute blast. Out of the entire Smash Bros. line-up, Melee is the most difficult to master. This is a much more competitive Smash Bros., and tournament players have been able to pull off many crazy exploits that even the developers never intended.

    The Character roster has more than doubled, ranging from weird, unexpected choices like Ice Climbers and Mr. Game and Watch, to characters that had been considered for the first game but couldn’t for various reasons like Bowser and Peach. It’s a really solid roster, even if a good chunk of them are clones. Some also have pretty steep requirements just for you to obtain (Mewtwo), but half of the fun was being surprised by an approaching challenger and battling them in order to add them to the roster.

    Melee offers a wealth of content for you to soak in. For starters, there are more single player options. We have the returning classic mode, but this time the character battles are randomized to keep things fresh. There’s the ever popular Adventure Mode where you run through different stages based on various Nintendo properties. While the “adventure” concept of this mode teeters off halfway through, it’s still a fun, novel concept that really should be explored again in the future. We have the returning Break the Targets mini-game where each character has their own custom target stages that fully utilize their abilities. There’s Event Mode where you have different themed challenges to take on. All Star Mode pits you against every character in the game with limited health items. Melee also introduces the concept of trophies that you can collect from the different game modes or purchase with the coins you earn.

    Of course, multiplayer is back with a vengeance. Smash has always been best with friends and this is some of the best multiplayer action on the GameCube. There are more varieties of game modes to choose from like Coin Battles, Tiny Melee, Sudden Death, Stamina, a full fledge tournament mode. You name it. In case it wasn’t obvious, Melee is positively bursting with content, and is the kind of game that is meant to be played for years on end, not just because of all the things you can unlock, but because of how timeless and fun the core structure of the game is. Super Smash Bros. Melee is not just a great fighting/party game, but it’s just one of my favorites period. Even with other Smash Bros. games that come along it is still worth dusting off from time to time.    … Expand

And of course, it has developed its own cadre of advanced level gameplay techniques as well, enriching the experience for those looking for the next stage of fighting mechanics. Let alone the new gameplay modes like the Adventure mode that offer great, relaxed ways to enjoy the fighting mechanics in newer settings like stomping on goombas throughout Mushroom Kingdom or having Samus trying to make her great escape. Melee will always have a great spot in my heart as my first introduction to my favorite gaming franchise.     I have never encountered a game with such rich and deep gameplay as this. A lively and active competitive community and the perfection in gameplay Super Smash Bros. are reasons why this game is touted as one of the greats and why it has survived for almost 20 years and I for one am looking forward to a great 20 more.

    All time favorite game. There is a reason why this game is still alive today and arguably one of the most competitive games. This game is fun for beginners and those who are competitive. Can play solo or with friends. Go for free for all, or even teams. Can play straight fighting or with items to mix up the fun. Highly recommend

    This game is perfect. The skill ceiling is high so it keeps you playing, the gameplay is amazing, the ost is masterful, the graphics while not as good as other gamecube games like mario sunshine or windwaker are still impressive. the roster is iconic, the stage selection is great, and the single player content kept me going back for years even when I didn't have friends over

    This is easily the best game for the Game Cube, and is still fun to play after more then two decades. All of the original Smash 64 roster is here plus just as many new characters in the roster. The stage selection is significantly expanded including some from the original game. The classic mode is mostly random in character appearances despite a solid pattern of how the battles goes and breaks, making it way more challenging than the original. The Adventure mode has a solid pattern, but it is still fun and epic, with some tricks if you want something more specific. All Star mode unlocks after unlocking all characters.

    All of this is topped off by a fantastic soundtrack. No Game Cube game collection is complete without Super Smash Bros Melee.    … Expand

With a roster big enough to allow for character variety, a gameplay system allowing for some of the highest level of fighting games, plenty of one player modes to mess around with, and a community supporting the game as much as possible, SSBM is just as great of a game as ever.     The best competitive game ever made. There are dozens of techniques that can be implemented into your gameplay. That is why over 20 years after the game’s release it is still played competitively. It is also a great game for casual players. Tons of trophies to unlock. 26 different character. Tons of stages. And amazing single player content. Best fighting game ever made.
