    Seriously!! Some people gave this game a zero! I know some would say that it was the end of the whole RE franchise, but to me it was the perfect mix of both horror and action. So giving it a zero is nonsense. This game fixed all the flaws with previous resident evil games like the shooting mechanics. When I was playing it for the first time it felt as if I was in a journey. The graphicsSeriously!! Some people gave this game a zero!     Is so unique and defined gameplay to a generation to come. May caused the Hatred of some die-hard RE fans because is no a Survival Horror game. In anyway this overshadow the brilliance of this game.

    I really don't understand what makes this game special for so many people. To me, it marks the point where resident evil starts going downhill, it's no longer about clever puzzles and being low on health and ammo and feeling the next step could very well be your last, instead this is more like a shooter were you are just shooting all the time against 1000 dudes on the outside, no fear, noI really don't understand what makes this game special for so many people. Also, you have "over the shoulder" perspective but the character moves like in old resident evils, it's SOOOO unintuitive.

    To finish, something really annoying was he fact that the action takes place in Spain and the voice actors are clearly speaking mexican dialect, it makes me feel the game is kind of a joke, they didn't even research anything about the place the game was taking place in? I only give it a 6 because graphically it's kinda nice even if it's old and because the storyline was good despite the mexican thing kinda taking away the immersion.    … Expand

Capcom released this gem of a game exclusively on the Nintendo GameCube in 2005, and it blew everyone away, with the over-the-shoulder camera view to the change from zombies to brainwashed/infected villagers, this game doesn't disappoint. The fixed camera angles from the previous entries added a surprise to what's behind the corner, but this stepped it up because you couldn't do that without having to actually go around the corner.     One of my top 5 favourite games of all time. Looks fantatsic, plays fantatsic, great horror with great bosses. The gamecube version was the best verison at the time but I personally like the wii version a bit more but that dosen`t mean that the gamecube version isen`t a exelent version.

    When it was first released on GameCube I was immediately hooked! Its been the only game I still have fun beating over and over again till this day! Beaten on GameCube, Wii, PS 2 and PC. One of Capcom's greatest games!

    An influential masterpiece. In 2005, this was a revolutionary entry in the series. It was survival horror redefined as an action game. Nothing like previous entries, it was RE for a new generation. Only RE 7 was as radical in terms of change in game design. It's still a great game on the GameCube. I would rate it with a 10 out of 10.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Resident Evil 4 has some of the best pacing, atmosphere and character development in the history of games.
    You never feel slowed down in the game, every moment keeps you engaged either through quick game play, tense moments or lurking atmosphere.
    The textures are dark and dingy but bright and intricate to fit the setting and environmental details help solidify this. The soundtrack really helps with atmosphere building by matching the emotions you feel when playing that setting perfectly.
    Finally the characters are all likable in their own ways. Leon is cheesy yet strong, Ashley is your classic damsel in distress, the Merchant (i like to call him Stranger) is very mysterious but charismatic, Luis is helpful yet distrustful and so on.
    This game is a classic that still gets talked about to this day, a true gem and a game that will never die.    … Expand

    Everything about this game was amazing at the time it was released. Over the years I have purchased this game 4 times at least. Games like this go back to a time where; whenever you had a problem with the game, you could easily look past the defects because the products were just so dang good. This game was one of those truly fun experiences where replay value mattered.

    The storyline, like every other game, was really good. Hunting down and saving the presidents daughter. Fighting your way through a new addition to the zombies. A new plague. Using headshots, only to have their heads explode, making them significantly harder!
    The change in gameplay made this game much easier for the combat aspect. Being able to see where you're shooting, and aim your gun. Killing zombies became much easier with this new style.
    And like all resident evils, the puzzles were still there, making you think to proceed forward. For the longest time, this was my favorite Resident Evil game. It was a hard pick between 3 and 4.    … Expand

I was surprised when i got this game, and i still cant believe how much detail went into it. Its a perfect blend of sound, visuals and story.     The combat is by far the biggest improvement the RE series has ever seen. No longer do you just sit in a corner and fire away, you can target individual body parts for different reactions like kneecapping in order to stun for a roundhouse kick or an extremely satisfying suplex. Because of these mechanics the weapons are not only satisfying to use but they are also multitools in function as you can use them to shoot locks, deflect enemy projectiles, and hit stun to escape being surrounded.

    The sound design in particular is phenomenal, the weapon and reload sound effects are the best in the entire series for how punchy they sound. There is also a very clear effort put into making every enemy attack and movement obvious to the player, you will always hear an enemy before you see them so nothing feels like its cheap or catches you off guard even in the games most intense moments.

    The replay value is insane even without seperate ways RE4 still has a very replayable campaign thanks in part to its new game plus mode which lets you carry over weapons of a past playthrough and its addicting upgrade/currency system. Over the course of the game you collect treasures and sell them to purchase weapon and storage upgrades which can all be converted to the in game currency, its a very addicting way of handling an in game shop and I'm surprised more games don't do it this way.

    And then there's mercenaries, the time based survival mode where you can unlock other characters from past resi games. The other characters are incredibly fun to play as, especially agent hunk who can neck snap any stunned enemy, its something you really need to play to understand how cool this is.

    Bottom line RE4 is an amazingly fun experience that only gets better the more you play and understand the depth of its mechanics and level design. Its truly one of the most awe inspiring video games, grand in spectacle, doesn't take itself seriously and is better for it, prioritizes gameplay above all else. One the greats. Also anyone who dislikes this game needs to have their testicles surgically removed.    … Expand

    RE4 has changed the gaming landscape forever. It was a such a blast to go through. I finished this game so many times than I can count. I love the change it brought to the series even tho it's a departure from the much beloved RE formula. But it was a revolution that was bigger than the RE franchise itself and I appreciate it for it. Shinji Mikami rules!

Stunning visuals, campy and fun plot, awesome characters, epic music, and incredible gameplay. The powerful weapons, the awesome gore effects, the brutal roundhouse kicks and bone crunching suplexes. It has great everything, some of the best voice acting I've ever heard, the most satisfying gameplay I've seen in years, a great story, amazing characters, good controls once you get used to them. Not nearly as scary as I thought it would be, but this isn't a horror - action game, this is an action/adventure game. Insanely goodI can't explain exactly what makes this game so, so special. Leon being center stage was great. However, it does have the MOST annoying person every in the series and that is freaking Ashley Graham. Having to protect her and/or wait for her was and still is painful to even think about to this day. If, and when, they remake RE4, I really freaking hope they change that aspect. Also, for better or for worse, it also gave us the most annoying antagonist to date in the series in that little pipsqueek, Ramon Salazar. With all that said, this is still a super, amazing game.… Expand

Los tiempos de carga son cortos, los gráficos son excelentes, los fps son estables, la IA no da pena, la dificultad dinámica está bien (a exepción de puntos como 'El salón de Agua' o 'El salón de la grúa' donde el pico de dificultad aumenta descomunalmente), la banda sonora está mejor que en ps2.

    Indiscutiblemente obra maestra. El que niega lo bueno de este juego, probablemente es un boomer que se quedó en el pasado. Si no te gusta por el juego en sí, sin cosas de "El principio del fin", "No es Survival Horror", etc. Es respetable. RE4 no necesita ser Survival Horror para ser uno de los mejores videojuegos de la historia.

I dare you to encounter the chainsaw guy in close quarters with no upgrades to the basic handgun. The immersion is amazing. It has some of the best elements of gaming dating back to atari.     Super duper, the best game of my time, I loved all the scary enimes, and boss' but going around with ashley, can get bothersome. the only thing that was wierd to me was Saddler (the last boss) was simple, i just shot him 3 times with the revlover, and the Rocket launcher came, and CABOOM, dead just like that, simple, BUT I WOULD TOTALLY GET THIS GAME.

    Resident Evil 4 will probably be the best game of the year by far and I thoroughly enjoyed it: from incredible visuals and panicky gameplay to it's ingenious buy/sell system, the game carefully keeps your excitement high by keeping you rooted in its world, through both limitation and innovation. Sublime.

    This is a much needed sequel to a series that was on its last leg. RE4's gamplay is completely overhauled wich results in amazingly fast paced action not yet seen in a surrvival horror game.

    There's nothing else to say: one of the funniest game in years. You will play it over and over again. Big action, no more stupid puzzles -even if there are some- or keys with spades or hearts, astonishing graphic, good storyline... and Leon is too cool! Capcom reinvented RE and did a great job (so why DMC 3 is so lame?). A must buy for ALL Gamecube players and RE fans.

    In my opinion, this is a great merge from both the original series and a new style, and simply because it has still the atmosphere of the first games, but without being too sluggish on the movement. Sure, it's more action packed and that wasn't what RE was about, but the monsters, the atmosphere, and the feeling was STILL similar to the original RE.

    Few examples are the monsters, which are still some of the most scary and also varied monsters in the game (the Regeneradores are the creepiest ever), with maybe the ganados being not the usual sluggish zombie, but an intelligent one that can also use weapons...well the solution already came up: they are not zombies, but real people infected with the virus, and the fact that they can use weapons also means a bigger threat. Luckily they aren't the only monsters, or it would have been far worse, but they were creepy, very dangerous and, unlike zombies, they could easily reach you through ladders, doors, windows, everywhere.

    Zombies wouldn't do that...except maybe a few (RE1?)

    Second: the game has still a RE feel, and by feel I mean it's dark, dirty, gorey and very "gothic" in a way, and still gives you the impression of being trapped despite being in a very large village (if anything, only RE1 managed to get the dark and gothic feeling, while RE2 and RE3 tend to be more modern but gorey). Infact, newest installments fails on that because they don't use the same atmosphere (RE5 is set IN THE LIGHT, while RE6 is too modern, and also more action packed).

    RE was about atmosphere, music, gore...and also tons of jumpscares: RE4 managed most of these components and added more action and more freedom of movement.

    This is where a lot complain but, if I have to be honest, it feels good to be able to move more freely and to aim your shots.

    I admit, I love the limited movements of the original games, but they were still pretty limited and frustrating, especially since most of the time you're supposed to be a soldier/cop, yet being unable to even aim your shots was kinda silly and so unnatural, and just aiming "up or down" wasn't enough(without mentioning being unable to move while aiming...although RE4 does that still).

    In here, you actually got to aim specific parts and some enemies require aiming to be killed or some specific tactic that involve aiming in some parts (the previously mentioned Regeneradores are one) and it felt much more intringuing and involving like that. I'll still love how the original way is done, mostly for nostalgia moments, but RE4 still did some good improvements on the movements (minus some obvious exceptions).

    In my opinion, this is the melting pot of the old and new RE: the old for its gothic (or just dark) atmosphere, and the new for better movements, more freedom of exploration, better controls and less constraints.

    Of course I won't agree with some of the changes (being able to get ammo easily, selling stuff and etc), but I still think this is probably the last new/old RE we will ever get, as the newer games are going more for more action and less atmopshere.

    Haters are gonna hate, but I think it's worth a check (maybe on other consoles, but this is the version I have).    … Expand

    While I have also played the PS2 & XBLA versions, I will review it based on the first version I played on the Gamecube. This game is the reason I bought a Gamecube. It was a step in the right direction a nd a very bold movie from Capcom. The action is good, the graphics are great, voice acting is fantastic (mostly.) It really is a spectacular game, full of excellent boss fights, a chilling atmosphere, and a pretty decent story (although the quick time events suck).     El cambio que hay del RE3 al 4 es brutal, me encantó como posicionaron la camara detras del personaje y la jugabilidad que le dieron. Mantienen la esencia, quizás para mi gusto, con menos sustos, repullos y sobresaltos, pero si han mantenido el hecho de tener miedo a quedarte sin munición y esas cosas.
