An incredible game, and, not counting of few minor flaws, is extremely polished. I'd certainly go as far to say it is probably the best baseball game for those of you who aren't that into baseball.
-
In 20-04, the pitchers can now burst into flames while performing extraordinarily on the mound.
-
By far, the best element in the game is the hilarious commentary.
-
Due to good physics modeling, sharp AI, and spot-on controls, no amount of wonky pitches and fiery players, watery stadiums, and moronic (if hilarious) commentary can detract from the solid gameplay.
-
Play MagazineThe biggest improvement is the overall visual quality of the game. [Apr 2003, p.71]
-
Slugfest will always be a better two-player experience. The single player still does not have the depth of AI to contend with some of the more sim-style titles on the market.
-
Players who lost touch with baseball games when they went 3D on the PlayStation may find that Slugfest is exactly what they've been missing.
-
One of the best features of Slugfest is the audio commentary provided once again by Tim Kritzrow and Kevin Matthews. The dual commentary plays well within the game, and never interrupts the flow as the commentators call the game while telling their stories.
-
Baseball fans that dont like baseball videogames might be interested in this one, and videogame fans that dont like baseball might find this an attractive title as well.
-
Handling, whether batting or fielding, is remarkably simple, rendering the action accessible by just about anyone.
-
GMR MagazineIt's not baseball. Slugfest is "NFL Blitz" with bats... If you know what you're getting going in, you'll have a blast. [Apr 2003, p.65]
-
Game InformerIt has an extremely poor frontend. [Apr 2003, p.89]
-
What is the most disappointing in 20-04 is the lack of real additions. Sure a fun HR derby was added, as well as a custom replay option, but what else? Oh yeah, a create-a-team! If that's what you want to call it.
-
Nintendo PowerA fun and fast-paced baseball experience. [May 2003, p.139]
