Not to mention the Boolossus boss battle is very cool in theory but again, towards the end the boss becomes very annoying to fight. Overall, I'd give the game a 8 out of 10, its a great game. Expand

Overall this is a pretty fun game. It is however a little repetitive. Also, the game is very short, you should be able to complete it in ten hours and I do not think there is really any replay value here, so from that point of view it could be consider expensive. Simple, easy and short, yet incredible funny. Nice graphics, cute characters and quite interesting puzzles. Controller settings are far easier than the ones in the other two Luigi's Mansion games. Good soundtrack. Some boss fights and characters are memorable. A must play, no doubt.

a timeless masterpiece. the character, the gameplay, the challenge, the replayability. it can be replayed an infinite amount of times and it will never get boring. wrestling with ghosts is quite easy but the player can improve an unbelievable amount and capture almost every boss in just 1 go.

Una gran experiencia individual que, lastimosamente, no da para segunda o tercera partida. Gran videojuego, pero es que es eso, una vez acabado... poco más. Es el mantra de los Luigi's Mansion.

Luigi’s Mansion is a short but painful experience that makes you wish that Luigi had a better game to debut as the main character over Mario here.

The game is a spectacular ripoff of Ghostbusters, right down to using a vacuum pack that both sucks up the ghosts and can throw fire, ice, water at them. You do nothing but startle as many ghosts as possible with a flashlight and then suck

Despite its shortness, it has extremely well-defined breaks between major boss fights of which there are 4. The one great thing about this game is the most commonly played track in the Dark Hallway Theme, which is a fantastically creepy piece of music.

I fired up an emulator and well, I have to say it’s a charming game, and while the concept is nice, it is let down by terrible controls, repetitive backtracking and bad game design choices. While there is an attempt to have some variation in its’ gameplay, it does little to alleviate the fact that the core gameplay boils down to holding down the right trigger and wiggling the right stick. You basically do this for 8 hours straight. Towards the end, the game starts padding your time by making you hunt ‘hidden boos’. These things keep running from room to room if you don’t act quick with your controls. Now with the game’s terrible controls, this makes it an absolute chore. Thankfully, since I was using an emulator, I could use save states. Without that, you’d probably have to hunt them every time you fail instead of loading a save state and I can’t imagine how sour that would’ve made the experience. The enemy variety is pretty much the same with little to no variation besides just a few elemental affinities most of which barely show up. The mansion itself really lacks in variety for environments and has the same look to all its’ rooms/floors. I guess I expected too much from such an old title but Luigi’s Mansion is definitely not a good game. Still, there is a bit of charm here worth checking out. From whatever little I’ve played of the sequel to this, it seems to be generally better than this one.

Final verdict: A 6/10 even by pre-2000 standards. Thoroughly mediocre.

I 100% this game on my GameCube and I thought it was a great game on the GameCube and I think it was a good launch title on the GameCube in 2001 and the only thing that bothers me is that it’s kind of a short game ranging from 4 to 6 hours to beat it.

Man, Luigi's Mansion was a great launch title for the GameCube. This game is very fun. It is just such a fun and original concept. It may sound stupid to some, but the gameplay is super fun. It is extremely satisfying to catch ghosts in this mansion. The gameplay is super fun, but, it can really drag at some points. There is some backtracking too. For example you'll get a key from the basement and see that it goes to a room on the third floor, so you go all the way to the third floor in a very specific and definitely familiar route. Then you get a key from the third floor which opens in the basement. So you go all the way back in the basement. That can be annoying, but it isn't a big complaint. Luigi's Mansion is super fun, and has some super fun gameplay. Luigi's Mansion gets a high B+, and a 8/10. Expand

-Level design is A+, the mansion and all it's 4 areas are incredible! The game becomes more addicting as you adventure throughout more of the mansion.

    Cons:
-The game's difficulty level is a little too easy and if you've played loads of times the game can be beaten in less than 20 hours.
    - Released a little less than a month AFTER halloween as GCN was launched November 18th 2001.

Luigi's Mansion still remains as a key franchise for Nintendo today with Luigi's Mansion 3 being one of the biggest titles for Switch so far. None of the sequels have the charm that the original have.

Luigi's Mansion also takes away the pain of having only 1 game on Gamecube developed by Rareware.

Like getting socks for Christmas, it's good and comfortable, but not what we wanted. [Feb 2003, p.96]
  2. A competent, atmospheric adventure and truly a new direction for the characters, but at this length it simply isn’t worth the £35, let alone the cost of the console.
  3. Potential tension is sorely lacking. However, the challengingly physical and rewarding nature of the actual ghost-catching sequences does go a way to make up for this.
