By taking a lighthearted and cartoony approach to a genre of games that was previously untouched by such antics, Poponchi succeeds in providing an altogether refreshing gameplay experience for those who are tired of the traditional elements of skateboarding games.
-
Actually works shockingly well and pans out to be an engaging, if simplistic, skateboarding experience with some legitimately amusing gags and great presentational aspects.
-
Doesn't quite live up to its potential, mostly due to very mechanical control and a shallow trick system. [Dec 2003, p.159]
-
The tracks and tricks are interesting enough that it's worth taking the short time the story mode occupies, and creating a huge chained negative reaction is always good for a laugh.
-
Nintendo PowerA laugh-out-loud funny skateboarder. [Feb 2004, p.149]
-
Play MagazineThe animation is a tad stiff, and the control takes some time to master given the state of the characters, but GGH is surprisingly addictive. [Dec 2003, p.85]
-
GMR MagazineWith too much style and not enough substance, this one can only Go! Go! so far. [Dec 2003, p.88]
-
Defines the phrase "too much style, not enough substance." While I want to applaud them for doing something different with the extreme sports genre none of their ideas were executed properly.
-
The edgy cartoon trappings kept me interested in this game far longer than its actual gameplay. Which is to say, about an hour - or maybe three, if you count the two times I had to restart because I was still figuring out the Story mode's rules that don't let you retry events.
