-
One of the most interesting titles to come out for the Nintendo GameCube and any Cube gamer would be foolish to pass a game like this up.
-
Deftly avoids the many pitfalls of AI squad tactics, and this, combined with great control, mission design, and presentation, makes for a truly fantastic game.
-
While the gameplay is pretty tight, its the addition of charisma and squad mates that sets the game apart.
-
The concept for the game is wholly imaginative, and I can't think of any game out there with a similar type of control to it.
-
With the fabulous visuals, outstanding soundtracks, and easy to pick up gameplay, this is one game that you are sure to enjoy time and time again. Now move out soldier.
-
A game that gets better the more you play it. The challenge increases at the same rate as your skills and abilities so that you're really appreciating the level of control you've got towards the end and the cool action you can create because of it.
-
Nintendo PowerGameplay is solid, but camera control is severely lacking. [Jan 2004, p.159]
-
games(TM)It's far less intricate than a regular squad-based game, yet it retains all the elements that make them fun - as opposed to a title like Brute Force, which had none of them. A fine display of IO's creative talent. [Oct 2003, p.116]
-
TotalGames.netA good third-person, team-building, shooter for the GameCube. But it needs more depth to the AI, longer levels and less linear missions.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyEliminating enemy forces and hoisting our country's colors high above Manhattan rooftops never feels repetitive... Sadly, Freedom Fighters is over too quickly, it's easily completed during a weekend sitting. [Oct 2003, p.131]
-
The AI is surprisingly excellent - if you send a batch of troops out to scout, they will take up careful positions, scale machine gun positions, engage the enemy, and redeploy defensively without any more commands having to be issued.
-
It's a little short, but with four difficulty levels there's plenty of challenge. And since the battles play out differently depending on your actions, there's a good amount of replay value here.
-
The qualifications -- short length, lack of replay value, and control issues -- knock the game down value-wise, even though I think anyone who's attracted to quick, violent squad play will have a good time.
-
Play MagazineRelentlessly entertaining, finely crafted and smartly engaging. [Oct 2003, p.73]
-
The story may be weak and the opposition dumb; the lack of depth doesnt have to stop you from having a great time blasting some Soviets in this otherwise decent game.

SteveDec 19, 2007Easily the best squad-based shooter for Nintendo. The multiplayer mode is my favorite with 2-3 friends hecticly fighting for the flag.
-
Mr.OrangeNov 7, 2007Vastly underrated and often overlooked. This is one of the best squad based shooters to come around in a long time.
