It's a throwback to days gone by and is successful in what it sets out to do. It's a fun game overall, where thinking comes second and blowing the aliens away is the primary goal.
-
Nintendo PowerThe button assignments are nonintuitive, making for hand-twisting play control, and there is little variety in the 10 large environments, but pure action fans will enjoy the game's quick pace. [Mar 2004, p.118]

Since the game mechanic is so straightforward, BlowOut is a very good game to pick up and play for short periods of time without losing ground. Aside from occasional frustrations, it's cheap, mindless shooting fun.
-
While this game isn't quite as fun as, say, "Contra," it is a worthwhile experience, especially at the budget price point. If you're a fan of this kind of shooter, you owe yourself at least a rental.

Cheat Code CentralI don't want to sound too cheap, but considering you can complete this game in a day there's no reason to purchase it. There's precious little here for replay value.
