  1. Complimented by challenging dogfighting missions, intuitive controls, and a balanced reward system, Wings is a solid, challenging game.
  2. While the two-dimensional nature hampers the overall game experience, this is a challenging game that will test game players.

This is more than just a plain game, it's a damn fine plane game if you ask me.

A fun, straightforward shooter in WWI clothing, and while the 200+ missions inevitably become repetitive after a while (despite frequent changes in visual scenery), the bracing dogfight sequence and multiplayer modes are always entertaining.
  5. 75
A cool collection of three different game designs that, while fun in their own right, can't stand on their own because of gameplay limitations.
  6. Its arcade style dogfights provide enjoyment, but the whole thing may begin to get repetitive after a while.

Graphical oddities aside, the gameplay is thoroughly entertaining, if a little limited by the repetitive nature of the missions (shoot down enemy biplanes, shoot down enemy balloons, shoot down enemy bombers and, did I forget to mention, shoot down enemy biplanes).
  8. Nintendo Power

Visibility is severely limited in both views, however, and the game offers no navigational aid. [Apr 2003, p.139]
  9. But if you're not a diehard fan of history or just don't like the sound of this game you won't like it and I wouldn't suggest it.

While I cannot attest to it's fidelity in regards to it's Amiga version, I can say that it is no Red Baron. The lack of rudder While I cannot attest to it's fidelity in regards to it's Amiga version, I can say that it is no Red Baron. The lack of rudder control, poor AI (they love to ram you, a la X-Wing), and repetition all equal a game that you will play for an hour, leave, then pick up again for another mission. The story isn't important (seems less accurate and more ham) but the promotion system seems to work well and keeps you trying to earn more awards (you will give up on trying to save your wingmen after a few skirmishes). Other things such as the lack of landing and take-offs, rudder, ridiculously low ammounts of fuel (designed to limit your time), NO SPEED CONTROL (constantly over-shooting enemies and having to do endless immelmans and split s's without a rudder!) and the cheap maxim/vickers gun that jams constantly after a few bursts all equals a trying, yet still entertaining play. If you like the ol' canvas falcons and fancy a few dog fights, balloon busting, bombing (3rd person, top-down view) and strafing missions, then it is a good game. Otherwise, you might want to try the Wing Commander Prophecy, as it has faster game play and it's own unique pro's/cons. Full Review »

Even better than the Amiga version. Fiddly at first, but with a bit of practice you'll become heavily addicted to this masterpiece.
