Theyve taken the technology used in [the original game's] engine and tweaked it just a bit to deliver more responsive controls, but above all, a better looking game overall.
-
The background music is fitting for an action game, and the rest of the audio is made up of powerful sound effects and pretty crisp voice clips.
-
Whether you're strictly a movie buff or have followed the comic book for years, you're going to easily be able to identify with the characters, stories, and missions that the game serves.
-
The reason I am giving Spider-Man 2 an average score is because of the shabby 3D graphics and the fact that the controls can get shabby from time to time and leaving you very frustrated.
-
Game InformerI love the gamplay, but there really needs to be a more engrossing game around it. [Aug 2004, p.107]
-
Problematic, though, are the sequences in which you have to swing around confounding and shoddily rendered 3D hub areas to capture Doc Ock, access new chapters, and unlock bonus missions against a timer.
-
Nintendo PowerThe task may be mundane, but the gameplay is solid for the most part. [Aug 2004, p.122]
-
As excited as we were for the first Digital Eclipse Spider-Man game on the GBA, it's just a little disappointing to see its problem areas ignored for the sequel.
-
It starts out on the right foot with an incredible opening video (yes, video) sequence but that early excitement quickly gets bogged down amidst mediocre 2D platforming and trial-and-error boss battles.
-
Cheat Code CentralYounger players who aren't up to snuff on the somewhat difficult controls of the console version will get more out of this than the average console player.
-
It's far too long and tedious, allowing us to save along the way, when its old school appeal would have been better served by fewer levels, no saves and less repetition.
-
The game is only a couple hours long and any semblance of unlocks (an image gallery) are an insult. Nobody wants to look at a gallery of movie screencaps on a GBA screen.
