Although theres no multiplayer, the replay value is durable, not to mention the nicely done graphics and the incredibly impressive sound.
-
Hands down the most entertaining boxing title currently out for the GBA. Unfortunately there are a few too many minor issues that ultimately keep this title from being an instant classic along the same lines of its predecessors.
-
Tries its best to be the next Punch-Out!!, but it falls well short of the mark.
-
A tremendously flawed product. Yet, there are many redeeming qualities to the game which hold great promise if developed properly in the future.
-
A training mode is sorely needed, because it took me literally seven tries to get the first boxer to stay down on the canvas.

Play MagazineAcclaim has taken the once-spellbinding formula and given it the full GBA treatment, creating a game that plays, looks, and sounds better. [Aug 2002, p.76]
-
Nintendo PowerThe challenging setup, bold graphics, lively characters and fun settings should score a knockout with boxing buffs. [Aug 2002, p.147]
-
The biggest problem in Punch King is how shallow it is.
-
Once you advance through Arcade Mode, which spans 11 fighters, theres nothing here to hold your interest. No career, no create-a-boxer, no save feature to improve on top performances or knockout times -- not even a two-player contest, which is inexcusable.

Game InformerI have to go to the courthouse and file a restraining order so this crappy game cannot get within 1,000 fee of me ever again. [August 2002, p.91]
