The gameplay, the one thing that stood out most about the Mortal Kombat series, is flawed. I played with all of my favorites -- both Sub-Zeros, Kabal, Cyrax, Ermac, Sindel and Scorpion. Of those seven characters, six of them did not function properly at all.

Game InformerMK Advance may look GBA, but it plays GBC, and that's the killer. [Mar 2002, p.91]
-
Pocket GamesHas the feel of a hasty port, which is par for the course with Mortal Kombat games these days. But fun for a short while. [Summer 2003, p.30]
-
AceGamezThe last thing about the gameplay I want to bring to your attention are the glitches that somehow got by undetected by the six testers listed in the credits. These range from projectiles colliding with your opponent but having no effect, to performing fatalities then having the game crash. With six testers on board, that's pathetic - did they even play the game before its release?
-
If you like fighting games, pick up another one.
-
A slapdash and deeply disappointing GBA makeover that will do nothing to win over new Mortal Kombat fans and will enrage hardened aficionados hoping for handheld heaven.
-
Doesn't feel like the return of a classic game so much as a poorly executed retread of a tired one.
-
The horrible AI and wonky controls result in extremely stiff gameplay.
-
Oh my god. I thought the Game.com version of Mortal Kombat was bad. That can't hold a torch to this log.
-
While one is stuck fishing for maneuvers, the computer is busy putting a boot so far up your rump you'll be sneezing shoelaces. The complete inability to respond to a flurry of deadly blows in kind renders human-controlled fighters all but helpless...Insulting.
-
A game that shatters expectations, but in the worst conceivable manner. What we have here is a game so awful that it truly is in a class all by itself. It's just mind boggling how bad this game is.
-
It's a rush job, pure and simple, and it really is a shame that a once respectable series was reduced to this level of pure and utter deplorability.
-
It doesn't help that the AI is ludicrously tough, and as cheap as possible. The AI can pull off moves that the gamer couldn't possibly do as fast.
-
I simply cannot recommend this game to anyone, not even to those who are my most evil of enemies.
-
It's hard to control, impossible on the eyes, and kind of like getting your nose ring ripped out! This is, simply put, the worst fighter of all time. It's a new low on every aspect of the game.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyIf a circus train wreck was ever more accurately embodied in digital format, I haven't seen it...It's a steaming pile of bloody dog krap. [Mar 2002, p.146]
