Enjoyable, addictive fun. The special effects are excellent, and the game features some of the standard elements of Game Boy RPGs, but does a very nice job of providing a little something extra.
-
The penalty for being beaten in combat is too severe when you consider that it's not all that difficult to die in battle.
-
Game InformerIt's both rewarding and frustrating. [Feb 2002, p.100]
-
Nintendo PowerOffers fun adventuring while freshening up the critter-catching genre. [Feb 2002, p.154]
-
So inherently unfair it is guarenteed to test the patience of anyone. The rock-paper-scissors battles make combat 90% luck while the whole monster collecting sub-theme isn't very strong.
-
To progress through the game and have it all stripped from you based on one battle is simply a horrible design decision and makes this otherwise brilliant game needlessly aggravating.
