Like many other character-based shoot-'em-ups, the main problems with CT Special Forces are that it's repetitive and that it's over too quickly.
-
It would have been nice to see a co-op mode or something similiar to single play (with enemies, besides your friend) but it can provide a few half-hours of fun.
-
A good little mindless shooter title. I would recommend it for those long waits in line or long drives (in the passenger seat please) when a player does not want the difficulty of trying to figure out some puzzle or read any long dialogs.
-
Nintendo PowerThe play control is responsive and intuitive, and the graphics have a clean, comic-book style. [Feb 2004, p.152]
-
A solid experience with enough variety to show most any fan of the genre a good time.
-
games(TM)While matching up well to its obvious inspiration, CT Special Forces still lacks the spark of imagination and intensity that made Metal Slug so special; nevertheless, it's a pretty good take on the landmark game and a blast to play. [Oct 2003, p.118]
-
For a game that looks a heck of a lot like SNK's Metal Slug, it doesn't retain the charm or fun of that series, and features a lot of clunky gameplay elements that, honestly, didn't need to be there in the first place.

Jul 4, 2023Run and gun shooter that's basically Metal Slug without the sense of humour and special weapons. Well put together but a little too samey.
