    The graphics and sound are adequate, but the gameplay matters most. That being said, having two screens on the Nintendo DS gives you a better view of the playing field.

    If you're searching for the ideal Yu-Gi-Oh video game experience, you'd better keep searching. Spirit Caller is nothing but Konami shovelware.If you're searching for the ideal Yu-Gi-Oh video game experience, you'd better keep searching. Spirit Caller is nothing but Konami shovelware. It's not an entirely abysmal experience, the battle system from World Championship 2007 is here and you have the ability to challenge many of the duelists from Gx Season 1, but the level design surrounding these duels is really bad.

    Build the finest deck in the world, watch all the episodes of the anime, you'll still have to pull up a guide just to figure out where to go. The game rarely gives you clear indication on what to do next in order to progress through the story. Sometimes their's an exclamation marker on the map or a letter to tell you what to do, and sometimes there's not.

    Duel Academy is supposed to be silly and full positive energy, but most of the time I'm just walking around all day challenging random duelists until something happens. There is no driving force to push me to get better except my overall love for the Duel Monsters card game. And even that has its limits. After beating up like forty duelists, I was starting to get real tired of this game's level design. If you can even call it level design. You select these hidden Dora the Explorer map icons in order to challenge bosses to Shadow Games. You don't get to explore a dungeon, you just fight the duelist, plain and simple. It's pretty boring.

    The boss battles themselves, are alright. The music won't be winning any awards. Though for some reason, during the final battle against Jaden Yuki's Neos Deck, the music for normal battles plays, making it feel quite underwhelming. He's got plenty of great spells and traps to power up his deck to make the clash more challenging, but I just feel empty inside thanks to the lack of good music.

    This game is a time waster at best and an annoyance at worst. But there are better Yu-Gi-Oh games to find out there. It's not as bad Stardust Accelerator, but I was expecting more. How hard is it to make a good Yu-Gi-Oh video game for the DS? I have yet to discover a decent handheld title. As long as I love this card game, I'll keep searching.    … Full Review »

    I think that this game does a really good job of representing the yugioh card game, and integrating a well designed dueling field, which isI think that this game does a really good job of representing the yugioh card game, and integrating a well designed dueling field, which is fully acessable by the use of dual screens. The story follows the Yugioh GX series, and followsit quite well. the music is really great in this game, very catchy tunes, but also can be atmospheric as well. the gameplay is great as well. the duel system is very similair to Yugioh world championship 2008 etc. and is, in my opinion, one of the best representations of the card game. Something i hate in alot of the other mor recent yugioh titles, is that every time anything happens, your promted to activate a magic/trap card. for example: its the draw phase, would you like to activate a trap or magic card? you just drew a card, activate a magic/trap? its the main phase would you like to activate a magic/trap card? and so on, so forth. however, this game doesnt have that, as the game sees the only available situations and times that the given cards can be used, so your not continuosly spammed with options to activate, making the game much more fresh and basically less annoying. One thing thats really awesome about this game, is the card pack glitch. theres a way to get 50 packs for the price of one, by selecting 1 pack from 1 series, then selecting and entire pack series with L, then going to a 3rd pack, NOT GOING INTO THE PACK! but merely selecting everything with L, then releasing them with R. youll get the one pack from the 1st pack you selected, and 49 for the 2nd, for the price of one pack! its a silly glitch, but it actually makes the game better, because it makes it less tedious to collect good cards, and even if you have the best cards, the game doesnt allow you to unlock the great ones until the packs come out, which you progess more and the packs come out and have better cards. The night and day time element, as well as the way you travel and locate dueslists adds alot to the experience as well. there are alot of ways to customize your duelist and your deck, and everything is made simple and easy to use. the game is very well designed and built, and is an excellent example of a yugioh game done right.… Full Review »
