There is probably room for more features, but as a simple record of crossword history, the game works well. For crossword junkies it's a no brainer.
-
At around 1,000 different puzzle of varying difficulty, a plethora of options, ease of use, and single-card download play, there's little if anything that New York Times Crosswords got wrong.
-
So, is it worth having an essentially infinite supply of crossword puzzles the size of a postage stamp to carry around with you for $30? If you have any sort of interest in crosswords, yes. Undoubtedly. It's one of the best uses yet of the DS, and it makes for a perfect portable game.
-
A five-letter word used to describe Catherine, Alexander, and Tony the Tiger's favorite cereal.
-
Judging the game on its own merits, this is just what a handheld crossword game should be.
-
The New York Times Crosswords for the NDS is made for the puzzle freak and crossword enthusiast, but it's also enjoyable for anyone who has a penchant for simple-playing games with a good deal of challenge.
-
With a great interface and the best source material possible, The New York Times Crosswords is a must-have for any crossword fan on the go.
-
If you don’t mind the fact that the game costs more than a book of crossword puzzles that you can pick up at a newsstand, you’ll find yourself enjoying this electronic version of the New York Times’ signature puzzle.
-
Superb handwriting recognition and other nifty features make a strong argument for ditching traditional paper crosswords in favor of ones on handhelds like the Nintendo DS.
-
A huge collection of some of the toughest, chewiest, and most enjoyable crossword puzzles around.
-
Exactly what it sets out to be: an archive of a thousand crossword puzzles from the New York Times, reproduced on the Nintendo DS in compact form.
-
A great game that should appeal to those zealots and casual players that eat this stuff up. The features and game modes offer a lot of options, the presentation is excellent and the text-recognition actually works and works fast.
-
A great introduction to crosswords on a handheld system. The engine is a great asset to a handheld that has provided new ways to play many pen and paper puzzles. For crossword junkies, this is a must-have.
-
AceGamezThough it would have to drop the New York Times license, it would be great to see a second crossword game with a broad range of categories, such as music, movies and gaming, instead of random, non-themed puzzles. It just seems more fitting, considering that most NYT fans will have either finished these puzzles at some point or prefer to play them in the traditional form.
-
Nintendo GamerA clean, logical layout and superb handwriting recognition - we're sure crossword aficionados stateside are having themselves a grand old time. [Aug 2007, p.70]
