It's a fun game that takes advantage of the DS touch screen without being gimmicky. Hats off to the developers for keeping the spirit of Spyro alive and well.
-
The game still needs a bit tightening up -- the framerate's a bit of a drag at times, and the boss battles are very uncreative, but overall this action-ized Spyro game is a solid and surprising design on the Nintendo DS.
-
Intense boss fights and hot video scenes make up for the doldrums brought about by Spyro's constant struggle against generic enemies.
-
Official Nintendo Magazine UKA playable adventure with some clever touch-screen applications, but its disappointing technical cutbacks leave us feeling that our beloved DS can do a lot better. [Dec 2006, p.93]
-
The action can become a little bit repetitive, and the adventure aspects of old Spyro titles are gone, but it does feel like a New Beginning for the franchise.
-
I would wholeheartedly suggest that any Spyro fan check out any of the console releases of A New Beginning before delving into this frustrating release.
-
By dropping some of its heavier elements, Amaze’s attempt at straightforward play is not without merit on a console designed for just such a purpose. It’s just a shame that it’s entirely undermined by the need for those playing to have three or more hands.
