  1. It's an interesting bit of role-reversal for Peach, and it does a good job of defining itself outside the Mario formula, but the game is just too easy for its own good.

Super Princess Peach is a forgiving and entertaining slice of a game that’s at its most successful when it evokes the same feeling as a two-dimensional Mario. [Christmas 2005, p.103]

In terms of platforming gameplay, what's on offer here is pretty basic and simple, and certainly not anywhere near as deep or rewarding as "Super Mario Bros. 3" or "Super Mario World."
  4. This one's for kids or those looking for a cheery, laid-back adventure.
  5. 70
Younger DS owners, especially female ones, will lap it right up, finding the challenge level and frequent save points a good fit.
  6. It's quite unlikely that the intended audience for Super Princess Peach ever played "Super Mario Bros" back in the day, or perhaps any of the many sequels - and therefore is almost likely to be a newcomer to the platform genre. And if that's the case, Peach is a perfect primer, just in time for "New Super Mario Bros" in a few months time.

The calmer style of platforming in Super Princess Peach will not appeal to everyone, but for those that found Sonic too intense to play all the way through, this has a lot to offer.

Quite straightforward but solid enjoyment - it's not just for girls who like crying, though they'll probably like it too. [June 2006, p.33]
  9. Super Princess Peach is a platform game taken straight off a Nintendo blueprint; it has the charm and simplicity reminiscent of the “good old days” and yet remains fresh thanks to solid, original gameplay.
  10. Could Super Princess Peach have been a better game? Yes, it most certainly could have. But is this still a fun game that you should give a shot? Definitely.
  11. Although I suppose that Super Princess Peach is an example of Nintendo slumming for cash, it also proves that even when Nintendo is slumming, it churns out stuff that isn't really that bad. It may not be memorable or very exciting, but it's not bad.

Even when one can look past the sugar-coated glaze, you cannot look past the somewhat plain and lacklustre level design, generic puzzles and that it is difficulty-deficient.

There’s certainly something to be said for such a calming, stress-free adventure – a game that goes out of its way to provide a holiday as much as it does entertainment. [Mar 2006, p.95]

It looks and sounds great, controls well, offers up a solid quest and good extras. It's getting the score that it is not because of its flaws, but just because it isn't better.
  15. Kudos to Nintendo for giving us a glimpse of how things would be on the flip side of the world, with Peach saving the day for a change...even if she's crying or storming through it.
  16. Super Princess Peach is not a truly remarkable title on the scale of Mario & Luigi, not only as it's not very funny, but its innovations in interface and design actually make it slightly less fun than it might be if you played it 'straight'.
  17. It's a sedate, relaxing and simple platform-jumping quest suited to young gaming newcomers.

Super Princess Peach...an unremarkable platformer that plays like an introduction to the genre. [Jun 2006, p.91]
  19. Super Princess Peach is Super Mario for dummies. It's also Super Mario for girls, who, according to Nintendo, are just dumber versions of men that get all emotional when they can't find their vibro wands.

I also liked how Perry lets Peach attack without having to jump on people's heads, it was annoying to me in the Mario games. Sadly, a lot of the levels were too easy and too hard for me. I also had to free all the toads from every single level in order to face the Final Boss.

Positives:Peach is finally the main character, Vibe moves are easy to use, attacks are more convenient with Perry around.

Negatives:Perry's backstory interferes with Peach's storyline, some sexist undertones, and some levels are too easy and too hard.

Super Princess Peach is an enjoyable platformer with some neat ideas. Unfortunately it does suffer from some very irritating level design. Super Princess Peach is an enjoyable platformer with some neat ideas. Unfortunately it does suffer from some very irritating level design. Throughout each level there are a number of totally unnecessary warp pipes that can take you to different parts of the level. But these serve absolutely no purpose other than to confuse and frustrate (which they do immensely). Also, the developer has gone for (what I like to call) kitchen-sink game design, and thrown in lots of extra things to fatten the game up, ie. loads of collectable items...... Full Review »
