Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle is a decent adventure game that I do recommend, even though the control system on the DS leaves a lot to be desired; there is room for improvement and I'm hopeful that the developer will take this on board for future releases.
  2. Overall, there is much to recommend in this handheld conversion, but if you’ve played the PC version already, bear in mind that it’s only a port.

Cyanide Studio has done certainly delivered quite an impressive PC-to-DS port, managing to keep all of the video sequences intact and amending the control set-up to better suit the touch-screen input of Nintendo's portable.

A predictable theme for a graphic adventure compensated [for] by obvious affection for the genre. [Jan 2009, p.84]
  5. Despite its problems, Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle is still playable on the DS, and fans of the genre looking for some portable point-and-clicking will find themselves with a game to really get stuck into. You’re going to have to forgive a lot of minor annoyances, though.
  6. Runaway offers a testing environment to frustrate your grey matter.

This one is let down slightly by a poor conversion from the PC original. [Feb 2008, p.71]
  8. Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle's woeful mechanics and clunky puzzle solving turn a promising adventure into a bit of a nightmare.

After two years we can finally get this decent adaptation of the franchise to Nintendo DS. The formula is still working as then, although the technical limitations have caused the game to lose some of that "personal touch" Pendulo Studios gave to the original.
