It is an easy game but it has addicting gameplay. It reminds me a lot of the older side-scrolling Mario games but somehow this game is unique from some of the others. It is one of the best Nintendo DS games.

A great 2D platform game, really fun, and revive the old games of the Super Mario series, the game has practically no story, as almost all the games of Mario, but the positive point, certainly goes to aa fun, and the soundtrack, which is spectacular.

My personal favorite 2D Mario platformer, and the very first one I played. My personal favorite 2D Mario platformer, and the very first one I played. After 15 years without a classic 2D Mario game, New Super Mario Bros. marks the return of the king to the 2D platforming genre, with a new fresh look and the same excellent gameplay everbody came to love in the 8-bit and 16-bit era.

Mario controls as great as he did back in the day. NSMB features 8 different worlds, each with a distinct theme. Nowadays everyone is sick of seeing the same 8 world-themes in 2D Mario games, but this is the game that introduced them, and I think it was a good idea. As for the levels, most of them are really fun and well designed. Each levels holds 3 optional Star Coins, which are the main collectables in this game. Most of them are pretty easy to get though. The whole game is a bit on the easy side, actually. This might bother some of the old-school Mario fans, and it might be the game's biggest flaw. The amount and variety of levels is satisfactory to me. The game is bit short, but I think the overall quality and replay value make up for that

NSMB introuduced some really cool power-ups. The giant mushroom, the mini mushroom and the blue koopa shell are among my favorite Mario power-ups of all time. They're very fun to use. As for the bosses, all of them are OK, but once again, they are way too easy. The game has also a bunch of multiplayer modes, but I didn't play them very much, so I won't comment about them.

Visually, the game is colorful and has a good level of polish. It mixes 2D backgrounds with 3D models, and the result looks just fine. The melodies are as catchy and happy as ever. Overall, this is a very lighthearted and happy game, one that will put a smile on your face for the time you are playing.

Some people criticize this game for being too simplistic and not really innovate in any area, like Super Mario World did in 1990. But the truth is that NSMB is pure 2D Mario greatness, it's a return to the more traditional style of the NES Mario titles, which is just perfect as it is. So whether you are a fan of the series, or platformers in general, you need to give this game a try. I would even say it is the best of the new generation 2D Mario games, despite being the worst technology-wise.

So, this is what it looks like when Super Mario Bros is remade into a Nintendo DS game. I do find it better than Animal Crossing: Wild World, but not very much. The optional levels feel more lackluster, but more challenging than normal levels, maybe because the optional levels don't have to be beaten. It's an outstanding Nintendo DS game, and hopefully something as good as this will come for the Nintendo 3DS in the future (I'm talking about 2011 onward). Expand

I played this a lot in my younger days, and if it was as popular as ocarina of time back in 98 it would certainly be remembered just as fondly. The visual charm/aesthetic are unique compared to smb 1 2 and 3. + Difficulty: While it's far on the easy side, it still offers a lot of challenge in the game (especially in the hidden challenge mode).

    Cons:
    - Enemy Variety: It's just Goombas, Koopas, Bullet Bills, Dry Bones, and Wigglers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is very easy especially the Bowser grand fights which is not a good quality for my taste. But the graphics are lively, colorful and imaginative. Some of the graphics though looked raw and quite old but is still accepted because overall, the graphics design is still great.

The highlights of this game is the top-notched background music and the beautifully laid miniboard platform games (such as World1-1, World2-2, World3-5). Those platform games are the most enjoyable within the game. I like here the realism of some aspects of the game like the CANNON PLATFORM, which when you entered the platform, you will see what kind of world you will be "thrown" or "flown" by the cannon blaster in the game.

I finished this game more than 3 times if I can recall my childhood and early teenage years. This has left a satisfying impact to my wonderful childhood.

Again, this is a wonderful and a great remake to the classic Super Mario bros game. I am proud that the company has created this game.

Overall, enjoyable, catchy, and still classic!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In short, New Super Mario Bros. is an excellent return to form for the 2D Mario series! First, gameplay, controls are very smooth, they are perfectly responsive and you probably won't be experiencing any trouble with controlling Mario, the story is pretty basic, but personally, I don't think it's much of an issue, because I don't expect my Super Mario Bros. games to have a final fantasy level story. Peach gets captured again, go rescue her, it works for this game, especially due to this game being not much more than a return to form, the level design is phenomenal, and you'll get a lot of fun out of the main campaign, I think the new power ups are great too! Sure, the mega mushroom isn't much more than a controllable cutscene, which makes it only fine, but everything else is amazing, the mini mushroom has great utility, being able to use enemies as platforms, running on water, and accessing smaller areas. Finally, the loops shell is a nice powerup as well, it can be a bit irritating in some cases, but just the idea of becoming a koopa troopa is fun to me. Now, if everything in the main campaign doesn't do it for you, even the side content is awesome! Now, the fact that some minigames are reused from 64 DS is a tad disappointing, however, there are some new games thrown in as well, which are all addicting and super fun time wasters. So, in all, New Super Mario Bros. is an excellent return to form for the 2D mario series as a whole, with a fun main campaign, great controls, fun new powerups and addicting side content! This is a title I strongly reccomend! Expand

This game is almost perfect. The level design is awesome. The enemies make the levels indistinguishable from each other. Even the bosses are great (even though they're too easy to defeat). Mini Mushroom is just annoying. You cannot know where you have to use it. And it's a rare power up, so if you want it, you just have to repeat the level 1-4, where you surely get it.
The shell is... ok, I guess, but let's just talk about it as a bonus power up, that is needed like 4 times in the game... other than this, the game is perfect. Multiplayer is fun, too.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is great. It came out during the start of my adolescence. I remember being so excited for the game and telling my neighbor about it and I forgot to say what the commercial was about but he said yeah when I asked him if he saw the AD and he was just as excited as me about the game. When I got the game, I ended up beating it in a month with my brother's help. I loved the graphics to the game. The controls felt very smooth too. It was a big twist when dry bones bowser was a boss. Speaking of bosses, I love how the bosses are all original unlike the other new super mario bros games. The music is varied too which is cool. The game may be a bit easy for my taste but it does have its challenge. Also the level design is cool like you got shooting pipes, new enemies that surprise you, and tiny areas. I think the biggest issue with the game was that you rarley use the new power ups but other than that the single player is good. Multiplayer is good too but I don't like the pipe stage because you can camp to avoid your big opponent by going up and down that one pipe. Expand

A lot of people say that New Super Mario Bros, turned what’s old new, and then old again. This was when it was new. At this point, there was no 2d Mario for 14 years. It has the same story it’s always had, which wasn’t so bad back then, but it’s not good now. Story doesn’t mean a ton in a platformer, though. The new gimmicks are lots of fun. The mega mushroom is an utter blast, the mini mushroom is the worst power-up ever created, and the blue shell is the best power-up ever created. Water levels are still bad though, and mansions aren’t much better. That’s just how it is. Each level tries to do something new, and usually succeeds at doing that. The bosses can be hard, but are very creative. Mummipokey is fun to say, but also difficult and fun. There are 2 other game modes: Mario vs. Luigi and mini games. Mario and Luigi pits Mario and Luigi (by the way, you can play as Luigi normally by holding L and R and pressing A when selecting a file) and they have to get stars. It’s a lot of fun when you can play it, but by now you can’t. Mini games use the touchscreen and are “oodles of fun”. They’re even funnier with friends. I learned to play Poker from it.

This game is utter gold and probably my favorite DS game. It’s so sad to see New Super Mario Bros as the platforming series which will never change, but this was a good beginning for it.

Before New Super Mario Bros. entered my life, "Yoshi's Island" was, to me, the greatest platformer ever created. That title may now have to go to New Super Mario Bros.
  2. The kind of game that makes hardcore Nintendo fans get on their knees and weep in sheer joy over the eighty new levels of new 2D Mario action...The visuals come in scorching hot, with gorgeous 3D bringing the old school into a new school setting. Sprinkle in some minigames and multiplayer modes, and you have a system seller.
  3. While it lasts, it’s some of the best platforming to date and features what I consider to be the best Nintendo DS graphics to date. While it’s a shame the new power-ups are frills and the length of the main game is ridiculously short, it’s hard not to recommend it.
