  1. A fantastic and deep experience on the Nintendo DS. The only major downsides of the game are the difficulty, the average sound, and the fact that there's some graphical pop in while racing.
  2. Even though the DS does not have an analog control, the game is really responsive.
  3. There's enough variety here to keep you busy; it delivers a strong sense of speed; and the control, while not perfect, is good enough to keep you coming back.

The variety of racing options, the wireless multiplayer, and the art customizing features are a good start; it's certainly a satisfying racing experience, but there are gaps in its production. As fun as it is, it just feels like there should be more to the package.
  5. Technically a poor game, but this is one time when the overall value is greater than the sum of the parts – just.

A good DS racing game and at the time of this going to press, it's the only DS racer worth having.
  7. 65
A nice attempt, but an overall feeling of unfulfilling incompleteness.
  8. Nintendo Power

The mixture of shame and frustration it instills will make you raise your eyebrows, turn on your heels, and snicker as you walk away. [July 2005, p.99]
  9. 60
Although the game isn't on the same level as its console counterparts, the DS version holds its own.
  10. Cheat Code Central
    60
There is no real bonus to play this game on the DS. Other than the obvious portability factor.
  11. 60
By no means a bad game, but the sad truth is that it's about the best the DS will have in the way of semi-realistic racers. The hardware just isn't conducive to them.
  12. 55
A disappointing game. It feels like a severely stripped down version of a console version that is now actually cheaper than this version.

The unique capabilities of DS’s dual screens are not used very well. Touch screen serves only as a map, and as touch activation for nitro boost. As a driving game, NFSU 2 DS does not feed the need for speed. Driving simply feels too slow paced. [August 2005, p.68]
