  1. Moon is a solid first-person shooter, especially considering it’s on DS, but it certainly has its fair share of shortcomings and annoyances.
  2. Moon executes the basics of first-person shooting incredibly well; the touch screen and stylus controls work wonders in terms of accuracy and speed. It’s just a shame that everything else didn’t get as much attention.
  3. A fine game. It seems to lack a bit of polish and charm, the game does become a bit repetitive, and there's some flaws in the game design in some areas, but the experience was still fun overall. Moon won't win any awards for its story, either. But the spot-on control, slick interface, and impossibly smooth FPS play on this little portable game system should be commended.
  4. Moon is a well-crafted shooter that blasts off but fails to reach orbit.

In short bursts, Moon is a genuinely compelling if not compulsory experience, but longer sessions expose the unfortunate simplicity of Renegade Kid's sophomore effort.

We have mixed feelings with Moon. It's a superb visual achievement with spectacular controls and fun shooting, but we grew tired of the old school "hit this switch to activate this door" gameplay. So long as you go into it expecting a slow-paced first person adventure instead of Doom, you'll enjoy this lunar vacation.
  7. A positive example to other developers, that better things are possible if you merely put in the effort.

A darkly methodical FPS on the DS should be entirely refreshing but instead feels phoned in, as though Renegade Kid covered all the basics without tapping into a deeper gaming vision. It's too bad that the proficient Moon is a disappointing example of how technical achievement is not enough to make a compelling game.

Quite surprisingly, Moon captures the feel of the Metroid franchise more faithfully than Nintendo's own DS effort….But the main quest runs out of steam around halfway through. [Aug 2009, p.122]
  10. There are undoubtedly high points, such as the (mostly) excellent soundtrack, the fantastic controls and the truly impressive engine, but Moon is really just a supermodel in the Emperor's clothes, intriguing at first - but leaving very little to the imagination.
  11. The campaign, despite being short, ends up feeling like a bit of a slog and the use of the drone loses its appeal after an hour or so. The controls and presentation are top of their class, but without a really enjoyable game to back them up Moon ends up feeling like a missed opportunity.

Technically flawless shooter is a catch for your eyes but in no time you realize there are the same enemies and the same environments all the time… Boring it is. [Sept 2009]

I rated it an 8 out of 10 because the enemies and levels are repetitive, but with the DS's limitations, its forgivable. If you want to play this game, i would recommend the 3DS's remaster: "Moon chronicles", because the design and the controls are a little bit better (because of the C Stick on the 3DS) Final thoughts: Moon is a great game in the ds lineup, and if you can find a cheap price for it, i would definitely recommend it. Brought back a sort of feeling I haven't had since Quake or DooM. The handheld format it conducive to that old-school feeling. I had no problems with control, and I have big hands. Yes, the enemies can be a bit repetitious. But the backgrounds, sound and action are first-rate. The overall feeling is very spooky. The minigames with the bot add good puzzle-work to the game. I couldn't put it down. Full Review »
