There's nothing broken about it, and I'm sure little kids will love it, but I'm a big boy comic book nerd and burned out rather quickly.

Almost every element presented in this side-scrolling beat-'em-up feels miscalculated. [Aug 2011, p.89]

The crushing problem here is that the bland, murky environments make navigation a chore. [Aug 2011, p.75]

    Pros:

    -Great combat
-Great level design, bespoke sandbox's as it were with linear objectives.
-Excellent graphics (Holds up great via emulation)
    -Colourful scenic backgrounds
    -Fun upgrades

    Cons:

-Repetitive in the back half thanks to retreading
    -Very moderate difficulty, outside bosses
-Minimal character progression apart from lantern constructs
-Lack of voice acting doesn't feel entirely intentional

I'm a bit confused about the reception (at release) of this one, Griptonite returned in good form with their impeccable 3D engine boasting visuals that rival some of the lesser affairs on PSP; giving us satisfying combat, weighty animations and beautifully textured polygons. It's dull in the back half and could be more challenging (though their might be an argument for a GL power fantasy here) but it never sinks below a passable brawler, it's pick up and play its finest with some Metroid-esque segments. I'd still recommend it.

Seems as if Griptonite was more constrained here, in 2011 they were doing a lot more with home consoles (360/PS3) and were spread thin so I think Captain America and Green Lantern got the short stick on DS and were saddled with more arcade sensibilities, which isn't bad, they just aren't as deep as the likes of Web of Shadows or Shattered Dimensions. They are more in the vein Wolverine Origins on DS, which was a pretty traditional brawler. I suspect in 2011 people were looking towards impressive showcases on 3DS rather than sidescrollers on DS.

2D platform beat 'em up that's nothing special gameplay-wise but marked out by nice visuals.
