Like most people who picked up this game on DS, I played the N64 version when it came out and defended it to the death in subsequent years until I revisited it and my memories of playing such a chunky looking game were shot down like my little brother after refusing to use anything but the PPK.

The problem with this game is the fact it does play on nostalgia, but it doesn't hold up that

The problem with this game is the fact it does play on nostalgia, but it doesn't hold up that well. With poor controls, a weird aiming mechanic, poor weapons and chunky graphics, it's really hard to pinpoint where the game really falls down, except for just labelling it "crap." There's a reason

The story, once it gets going is pretty well the same as the movie, and it is pretty faithful, but the controls and the DS's limitations and tendency to sacrifice graphics for larger games pretty much compromises this game to the point that on a day when I'm feeling generous, I feel that this game might be mediocre. Today is not one of those days.

I had high hopes for this game, unfortunately, after half an hour of game-play, controls did not ease, using the stylus to turn your body and using directional buttons to move forwards and side-stepping is so awkward, moving from one place to another shouldn't be such a chore.. yet I felt like the controls itself took away from the storyline.

Amounts to nothing more than walking along a featureless corridor while somebody tells you an abridged version of the GoldeneEye plot. [Christmas 2010, p.72]

When GoldenEye 007 works it feels like one of the best shooters on DS, but the combat blemishes are frequent enough to become quite maddening.

It's a fair good shooter, with an interesting plot and nice graphics. Yet, if you're an FPS fan, you should know the DS offers some masterpieces in the genre, as Dementium 1 and 2 and the Call of Duty saga, which you should definitely choose over this one.
