I was so looking forward to FNS when it came out, and for the first few weeks it was brilliant! Then, several months later the Hatena site got a mass overload of crap flipnotes begging for apparently precious stars, therefore absolutely ruining the experience. What a shame, because it's a great tool, despite a few drawbacks.

It's not without its interface issues, but Flipnote Studio (and Flipnote Hatena before it shut down) was an experience unlike anything else on the platform. You simply had to be there to get the full experience, however, and without Hatena, you won't get the most out of it. Still, great things can be created using this application, even today.

After toying with the program for hours and seeing co-workers' reactions and excitement, both in what I produced and how easy it is to use, I'm now comfortable in saying that there's a real reason to own a DSi system. Flipnote Studio is the system seller Nintendo really needs.
  2. Flipnote Studio is simply essential. It's a superb animation application and it's completely free. All DSi owners should download it.
  3. While the program is simple enough for people of all ages to create a project, it still manages to offer up an almost endless amount of creative power limited only by the amount of time and effort users are willing to put into their projects.
