The card battling system never gives the player the feeling of being in control. Instead, most battles feel completely random and no amount of card handling skill can deal with a terrible hand when fighting some of the more powerful opponents.
-
BoomtownIf you’re a Dragonball Z fan this comes recommended, as knowing the characters and understanding the plot will only add to what’s already a decent game. For the rest of us, it’s a fun card-based game that’s only let down by its lack of difficulty and length. Worth looking at.
-
DBZ: HD feels like the developers actually put some effort into its creation. It's fun, and — dare I say it — somewhat innovative.
-
Dragon Ball Z: Harukanaru Densetsu's attempt to do something different with card battling, while commendable, doesn't compensate for its shallow gameplay.
-
The game play is far too simple, the stories are predictable, and the sum of all its parts never quite comes together to create a compelling portable game.
-
Maybe the fans will find something enjoyable about controlling their favorite heroes via a randomized deck of cards. For the rest of you, go play some Solitaire. You deserve it.
-
Nintendo PowerIf this game didn't follow the early-days Dragon Ball storyline, the dreadful simplicity of the card-battle gameplay mechanics (you could probably complete several battles with your eyes closed) would likely be even less tolerable. [July 2007, p.97]
