  1. In this instance however, developer Etranges Libellules have crafted a game of rare quality, movie spin-off or not.

    A definite must play!
  3. This colourful adventure is more Lewis Carroll than Tim Burton and fuses puzzles with exploration to great effect.

It is one of the best designed games in the Nintendo DS, with extraordinary visuals and an adventure suited for all types of public which won't disappoint anybody.
  5. Alice in Wonderland is a surprisingly innovative adventure game with a strong presentation and an entertaining gameplay.
  6. A quirky, delightful title. Calling it one of the best movie tie-in games we've ever played sounds a little like we're damning it with faint praise. So instead we're just going to go ahead and say it's one of the best games we've seen on the Nintendo DSi in quite a while.
  7. Alice in Wonderland for the DS is a unique yet delightful game for Nintendo's dual-screened wonder.
  8. Alice in Wonderland is surreal, dreamlike, well-crafted and very beautiful.
  9. Fun, quirky and refreshing. It may not take long to complete but is a Wonderful journey.

Such free-thinking touches recall a more experimental age when you could rightfully expect every other DS game to be crammed with esoteric concepts. [Apr 2010, p.118]

With clever design to separate itself from the disappointing movie, Alice in Wonderland is a fun game in its own right.
  12. Alice in Wonderland is a shining example of how to make an exploration puzzle game, and a movie tie-in one at that.
  13. This is the videogame equivalent to the Tim Burton movie, but this time you play as the white rabbit and fight with your watch in sweet and unique graphics. The game is fun, but Alice is simply annoying.
  14. It doesn't pack much of a punch, but this is a beautifully crafted, imaginative platformer.
  15. A nice 2D adventure title, where stylistic impact and excellent character design overcome the minor flaws.
  16. Alice in Wonderland for Nintendo DS comes as the classic game for kids, since the adventure is pretty linear and it can be completed in a few hours with little effort. However, the graphics are very cool and the controls are intuitive. Definitely it's worth a try.
  17. If you enjoy platformers filled with puzzles and a classic storyline, this is your chance at playing a good, portable movie tie-in.
  18. A well structured platform, with few original ideas that supports a fair designed backtracking. The art style is brilliant, for one of the best tie-in in the last years.
  19. Alice in Wonderland looks fresh and brings an entertaining adventure. The puzzles are fun to play, but sometimes the answers are a bit to easy to find.
  20. Don't expect ico crossed with the mind bending puzzles of Professor Layton, but do expect a well produced adventure game with puzzles that don't make you feel dumb.

Compared to its Wii counterpart - as generic a movie-licensed collect 'em up as you'll see - the DS version is swollen with ideas. [Apr 2010, p.98]
  22. Alice in Wonderland renews our faith in movie tie-ins. Giving its own spin to the visuals and story of the movie make this game never feel like a cheap way of making money off gamers. The intuitive stylus controls emphasize this even more. Only the repetitive fights take away a bit of glimmer.
  23. An infinitely better game than you'd expect, but one that falls just short of true greatness.
  24. It takes the idiosyncrasies of its source material and crafts a videogame around it, working just as viably as a completely independent property with its own sense of identity and adventure.

This game is inherently good. For anyone looking to pick it up they would pleasantly surprised.

The Music is just such a wonderful score and is so thematic to the game, it actually enhanced the experience for me. The sound effect quality is lack luster.

The graphics are very stylistic, the game runs well and looks and feels stylish. It suffers for me personally with gameplay and controls. The game controls almost solely through the DS's touch screen and I just don’t know why they had to go that route.

It just makes playing it feel like a chore. And the game itself is essentially one long escort quest which… do people like that?.. If there are people that are into that 2D-platformer & escort style gameplay they would be very surprised with this movie tie in game.

One feature that stuck out a bit to me was that you can place reminders on the mini-map to help yourself when going back to explore, very cool. And the overworld map works like a jigsaw puzzle that you jump between and connect the pieces to, to swap levels.

There are some other unique mechanics that are in the game, for example the starting character you play as (that's right you play as multiple characters as the game progresses, able to swap them as needed) he is able to manipulate time to get through obstacles.

It is not the game for me, but I know the people that like this style and gameplay would love this.

It is an interesting platformer with many innovative puzzles, and not to say the least bosses. The controls have a perfect learning curve with just enough challenge, but still possible to master. The graphical style of the game is very good as well. There is a bit of comic relief too so as to make the story not come in the way of your experience. Full Review »
