  1. The game’s biggest strength is in how well it establishes the tone and feeling of the console CoD4 games. The fast pace, mission structure, and gameplay are all distinctly Call of Duty, and everything performs beautifully.
  2. Call of Duty 4 manages to bring the frenetic, highly scripted gunfights of its big siblings to the Nintendo DS. It’s definitely one of the handheld’s best shooters, although it would have arguably been the best with the inclusion of online multiplayer.

It's not epic, but this is largely successful at bringing CoD to the DS. [Jan 2008, p.76]

An excellent, if slightly flawed FPS. Ignore the quirks and you'll find yourself totally absorbed in the action. [Issue#19, p.84]
  5. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfareon the NDS is a title that will forever stand in the shadow of its current-gen siblings, but it manages to be an enjoyable experience in its own right. Shamefully, it bursts at the seams with unfulfilled potential, but maybe future sequels will rectify that.
  6. On the DS, Call of Duty 4 is an intense first-person-shooter that's knocked down a few pegs by the lack of online play.
  7. Some of the game’s flaws can be overlooked but the checkpoint weapon bug is inexcusable and the nearly complete lack of enemy AI is essentially the equivalent of taking Doom’s enemies and making them forget to move forward.

Looked good from screenshots and gameplay videos but when I got it and played it, wasn't as fun as I thought it'd be. Enemy AI is Looked good from screenshots and gameplay videos but when I got it and played it, wasn't as fun as I thought it'd be. Enemy AI is pretty bad. They stay in the same spot and will never move. They won't chase you or do anything but shoot. The shooting is quite repetitive and there's no satisfaction when you take down enemies as their death animations are always the same. It takes a lot of bullets to kill them too if you don't shoot them in the head and they don't animate when they get shot at (unlike in say..Goldeneye)...they just twitch. There's a good focus on storyline and atmosphere. Sound is ok but the a lot of the guns sound muffled and not crisp. Music is the one thing that's very well done....sounds like a movie. Overall though it's an average game. Metroid Prime Hunters still beats the pants off it. If COD4 had online play it would have been better. Expand
