Bubble Bobble is a classic example of what was once a decent arcade game that has been updated badly, the classic gameplay and multiplayer are welcome but the tacked on extras and lack of features means there is little else to warrant a purchase.
-
It's a very uncreative sequel with restrictive multiplayer. The core mechanics are still fun in short spurts, but this follow-up misses a huge opportunity to revitalize a classic design.
-
There's really not much fun to be had here, and if you've played Bubble Bobble before, don't expect this title to be innovative at all; it's just more of the same.
-
Once the game gets past the simple early stages the fast-paced action can be very hard to follow. Combining the different colored bubbles never seemed to work right and I was always running into enemies when I thought I hit them with a bubble.
-
Nintendo GamerA mediocre entry in the Bub and Bob saga, too irritating to ever be absorbing, and missing the sparkle of the mighty original. Some nice ideas meet the frustration of poor level design. [Apr 2007, p.56]

If you really must have a Taito classic on your DS then go for New Zealand Story Revolution instead.
