Big Bang Mini is beautifully presented and innovative in terms of its design and gameplay but the further you progress through the 90 stages, the more the flourishes get in the way.
-
The shmup is a genre that's struggled to find a place in gaming's mainstream, and we doubt Big Bang Mini on the DS will change that fact. But it's an impressive effort with an interesting control scheme that, for the most part, works well.
-
games(TM)With nine mostly identical levels standing between each boss and each change in style, the game can become rather monotonous when it could so easily have soared, had it changed styles a little more frequently. [Apr 2009, p.118]
-
Edge MagazineThe fact that Arkedo has made such a simple gimmick work as well as it does over a longer distance is a testament to the developer’s skills at providing cheerfully mindless variety. [Feb 2009, p.95]
-
A hugely original and beautifully presented shooter sadly in search of proper difficulty curve.
-
Like so many games that try to straddle a balance between mass market and fervent gaming enthusiasts, what Big Bang does well and what it does bad are both incredibly noticeable. Yet, on the whole, it's worth a try. Weird.
-
If you've got massive amounts of patience and skill you might enjoy this game, but we're talking the kind of patience and skill required to solve Rubik's cubes in the dark and balance marbles on tightropes.

nikosgMar 17, 2009Shame Arkedo stopped developing for DS. I love their graphics designer(s). Great game overall.
