The nice thing– or problem, depending on how you look at it– about Beyblade: Metal Masters is that it holds no pretensions as to what kind of game it is, or who it's for. Buy Beyblade: Metal Masters and you're buying it for the top-fighting experience that is probably the only one of its (video game) kind.

Beyblades: Metal Masters has some great ideas but falls short on many different levels. Having to play through the Arcade mode 30 times to unlock new characters and the "Let it rip" sections before every match are a nuisance. The gameplay is, for the most part solid, but if you are not a fan of the series already, it will be difficult to really enjoy this game.

This gets boring really fast. Only young, die-hard franchise fans should give this a try!

Fans will love the chance to create their own beyblade, but the repetitive gameplay kills all the fun.

Customyzing your beyblade is cool but the game is boring and confusing

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ah, childhood games. Looking back at Beyblade: Metal Masters for the DS, it was a game I could pick up and play endlessly. But, with a critical eye now, I realize just how...not great the game really is.

    ----------------------
    Narrative:

The narrative for this game is pretty simple: Your chosen character gets invited to a Beyblade tournament in a totally-not-suspicious abandoned arena. You battle with the chosen character and the two allies you chose against other teams of three, fight the bad guy(unfortunately pitifully easy) and done. That is quite literally it, nothing else to explain for the narrative.

    --------------------
    Graphics/Music:

What'd you expect? it's a DS game. Graphics are pretty mundane here. The music is alright. Not the best, but it is not horrible. It is horribly blurry at times. (Specifically the models.)

    -------------------
    Gameplay:

In Free mode, you can customize your Beyblade with the parts and custom moves you unlock. This can be fun, especially for those who know their stuff, but it, unfortunately, gets old fast. The gameplay will eventually become pretty boring and dull, the same battles end up being fought over and over again. Arcade mode(Story) is probably worse off since it doesn't allow customization, meaning it gets old a LOT faster. It also needs a better concept.

    -------------------
    Conclusion

This game is pretty mediocre at best. Although it can entertain you until you've unlocked all the characters to play as in Arcade(or maybe not even), the repetitive gameplay quickly becomes a chore.
