A surprisingly charming RPG.
-
The controls are decent, a little bothersome on occasions but the battle system is pretty easy to use and is a welcome change from what I'm used to.
-
Witch's Tale is a good light-hearted RPG.
-
This is a classic case of style over substance. If you know a young DS owner who shops at Hot Topic, they’d probably get a kick out of the story and art – but don’t expect the subpar gameplay to turn them into an RPG fan.
-
All-in-all, A Witch's Tale is not only just average aesthetically, but absolutely destroyed by one of the worst battle systems I've encountered in a long time.
-
It is quite possibly the easiest RPG ever made, which will unquestionably turn off many people, but if that isn't an issue for you, there's plenty of style and charm to be found.
-
If you're an RPG fan, you may be prepared to put up with some of its faults in execution and be able to appreciate its superior presentation.
-
A Witch's Tale isn't a bad game. However, it is a generic game. In fact, if being generic was an Olympic sport, A Witch's Tale would definitely be a gold medalist.
-
In the end, we can thank NIS for bringing us another game we typically wouldn’t see, but I would caution most gamers to stay away from A Witch’s Tale.
-
Even though A Witch's Tale isn't quite as easy as NIS might have expected (and grows a bit thin after the first few areas), it's still a game with an unmatched aesthetic.
-
Everything else about the game — the story, characters and setting — is fabulous, but the gameplay doesn't live up to this promise and is among some of the drabbest that I've encountered in an RPG recently.
-
A Witch's Tale has good ideas, but these disparate elements are too haphazardly implemented to raise it above mediocrity. It's got its heart in the right place, but good intentions do not necessarily equal a top-shelf product.
-
Edge MagazineA Witch's Tale is the teacher who says 'look, but don't touch.' [Sept 2009, p.97]
-
Nintendo PowerAs cute as A Witch's Tale is, its weak gameplay and slopped-together feel aren't to be appreciated by anyone. [Nov 2009, p.86]
-
This Japanese role-playing game is made of equal parts dull combat and insipid story, A Witch's Tale isn't worth the time it takes to play.
-
Attempting to bring in new RPG gamers by having lower difficulty isn't enough to save A Witch's Tale from a plodding story, and slow game play.
-
I honestly can’t think of any kind of gamer that would genuinely enjoy this underwhelmingly over-the-top tribute to everything you’d see if Hot Topic made a video game.
