The presentation is solid, the gameplay inviting, and the visuals stellar.
-
While this season's team doesn't bring home the stuff that gangsta rappers' grills are made of, they do turn in a solid, respectable, silver-medal-winning performance.
-
A fun title, but we can't promise that in a couple of months you won't be trading it in.
-
Total Video GamesRent it out along with a six-pack and some mates some time, but I wouldn't recommend buying it.
-
There really should be a full ten decathlon events in the game; seven leaves you feeling hungry for more variety.
-
Game FanWhile the visuals are decent, Virtua Athlete 2000 is little more than a rehashed version of "Decathlete" for the Saturn, with little replay value, originality, or depth.
-
Spank!Beyond an hour's playing it looks grim.
-
AllDreamcastYou can quite easily play through the entire game in under 10 minutes.
-
Just too limited in its scope for the long haul. What is here is certainly enjoyable.
-
CNET GamecenterIts weak event lineup will leave it in a prime spot to be overcome once "International Track and Field" enters the competition.
-
Short, and I mean really short gameplay. With only seven events, the party's over before it even gets started.
-
Da GameboyzThere is definitely a good foundation here but with average graphics, mediocre gameplay and a lack of depth this title stays behind the pack.
-
Daily RadarThe included events -- Long Jump, High Jump, 110M Hurdles, 100M Dash, Shot Put, Javelin Throw and 1500M Run -- all involve the same control scheme. Each is equally frustrating.
-
At it's heart the gameplay of Virtua Athlete is really nothing more than a series of button timings.
-
Unfortunately, the experience is horribly marred by a complete lack of replay value, which makes Virtua Athlete almost too short to qualify even as a rental.
-
After a while, your thumbs and hands get tired along with your patience.
-
Alas, what we're left with isn't a "Virtua" disappointment, it's a real one.
