I was going to rate this game favorably. The story is basic, the combat is basic, but the fact that it's hard can be fun, until you get into the post game. At that point your AI allies become useless, you can't get enough Oni orbs to level anyone up without grinding for hours on your own, and trying to battle with people online is mess. If you are too low compared to others ranks, you get booted almost right away, and when you get in a room with people in a similar rank, they try to do missions they can't accomplish, and so you end up wasting time. The post-game content is easily the most inaccessible in the series so far, and the fact that there is such a huge climb to try and get to it, ruins the entire experience, which is already average anyways. There should have been a way to get enough Oni orbs through QR codes, passwords or anything, but pretty much all you get are coins. The grind ends up feeling like a mobile game kind of grind, without the option to speed it up. It's not fun, at all. Expand

This game is awesome. The multiplayer and bosses make this game so good. Most characters balanced and fair. Story cut scenes and music are great. Graphics good. For a spinoff this is a very good game.

This game is fun and adorable, but I rate this 9 as it is pretty easy to win

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Whether you're a Yo-Kai Watch fan or an action roleplaying game fan, stay far away from this game. With repetitive gameplay, painful grinding mechanics, a lackluster story theme, this is a spin off game that marked the beginning of Level Five's decline in quality game design. If the boss fights interest you, I'd advise you to watch them on Youtube rather then risk the chance of gaining finger blisters. For this game requires players to pour their soul into mashing buttons repeatedly in order to dodge and defeat a single post game boss. Expand

A fair spin-off that could have been better if it had leaned even further into the parody that ultimately wound up just being inconsequential window dressing for gameplay that's not at all related to Ghostbusters. [Issue #37 – January/February 2019, p. 69]

Its approach to the series remains simple and intuitive, with a good use of the 3D component. Unfortunately its tutorial segments are too long and cumbersome, the game is too blatantly based on the Ghostbusters movie license and its low level of difficulty renders the game's tactical component rather irrelevant.

Each of the ten chapters has a storyline that somewhat overlaps with numerical Yo-Kai’s. But whatever the plot reason is, in the end you’ll find yourself plowing through enemies using the same two basic attacks. It’s a grind game, plain and simple – and an uninspired one at that.
