Yo-Kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters isn’t just the best Yo-Kai game currently available outside of Japan, it’s also a fantastic title in its own right. Though its opening hours retrace the first Yo-Kai Watch a bit too faithfully, the rest of the experience is absolutely worth it; this is an endlessly charming RPG that captures the fun and wonder of childhood adventure, with the added excitement of a few hundred paranormal pals. This Psychic Specters edition perfects the formula, and if you’ve never played any version of Yo-Kai Watch 2, this is the one to get — though even if you’ve already pledged allegiance to the Bony Spirits or Fleshy Souls, there’s plenty here to draw you back in, and a save-import function means you won’t have to start from scratch. A highly recommended haunting.

Yo-Kai Watch 2 Psycoscopes is really the ultimate experience with regard to the crazy universe of Level-5.

Yo-Kai Watch 2 Psychic Specters is like the definitive edition of Yo-Kai Watch 2. Psychic Specters is the game that you need if yo want to enter into this universe. If you already have any version of Yo-Kai Watch 2, this game contains new dungeons, Yo-Kai, stories (like the origin of Darknyan) and new features to Blast Mode.

The new areas and new Yo-Kai creatures don’t justify the purchase of Psychic Specters for those who already have the previous versions, but for everyone else (especially for those who love the Pokemon games) the rich world and the improved battle system make this game a must-have.

This "definitive edition" is the best way to play Yokai Watch 2, with minor additions, but interesting ones nonetheless.

Same adventure as the previous Yo-kai Watch 2 games with a bunch of minor innovations. Very enjoyable for newcomers.

Psychic Specters is a sort of YO-KAI WATCH 2 Definitive Edition, that adds more and more contents: a perfect game for those who haven't played the main game yet, dispensable for everyone else.

More of the same. Same game, same characters, same quests... with just some new Yo-kai and a bunch of dungeons for seasoned players.

With the exclusive content from Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls and all new content, Yokai Watch 2: Psychic Specters is the definitive release and best jumping point into the wacky JRPG series.

Yo-kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters is the best game of the series outside of Japan. It’s good to know that its contents are enjoyable either by beginners who start their adventure or by those who played hundreds of hours in past versions and seek challenges that fit their skills. Having said that, the game could be sold as an expansion instead of a full priced game.

Ignore the obvious Pokémon comparisons, and you’ll find that Yo-Kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters is a charming RPG that manages to take a familiar idea and easily reinterpret it into something fresh and youthful. Yo-Kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters is the sum total of that experience, a reset on a pair of established games that adds even more to its distinct formula of crossing through to the other side. All aboard the Hex Express for this one.

Out of the three versions this is the Yo-Kai Watch 2 to get, it’s very much what has gone before, but this time they’ve thrown in the kitchen sink.

This is definitely the best version of Yo-Kai Watch 2, and we recommend it to the uninitiated of the franchise, but we wouldn't do the same with people who already finished any of the previous versions.

Yo-Kai Watch continues to be a delightful mix of morality stories for children, nostalgia for what it's like to be a child in suburban Japan, humour and monster collecting. The series may well never hit the same notes of mainstream popularity as Pokemon, but the fact that Pokemon has got a very genuine competitor in this particular genre, finally, is hopefully a sign that will push both franchises forward into the future.

The improvements received in Yo-Kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters are scarce enough to make the player interested in him. The mechanics continue to work but perhaps it would have been better to launch it as downloadable content.

An interesting RPG that lacks enough original content to be really interesting.

With such fundamental narrative additions and rich locations to discover, Psychic Specters is undoubtedly the most complete, accomplished version of Yo-Kai Watch 2, underlining its role of Japanese culture's ambassador at the same time. Yet considering the substantial updates released for Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls, the decision to get this definitive edition will not only depend on what you possess, but will also reveal if your are possessed by Level-5's wicked franchise.

Yo-Kai Watch 2 Psychic Spirits is the Ultimate version of its predecessors. And that's not a good thing, nor is it a bad thing. The game offers cute creatures, a great soundtrack, but bland fights.

    My opinion of the Yo-kai Watch franchise has faltered. [Issue #30 – November/December 2017, p. 72]

Whilst the game is densely packed with a ton of stuff to do, I still believe most of it is much too easy or repetitive – resulting in it feeling mostly like constant fetch quests. The parts I did love came significantly late into the experience and left me wanting more due to their brevity. It’s fair to say there’s something for everyone but that also makes it feel uneven. Up until the late game all the player does is run back and forth, switching between different times, battling with no interaction, and riding those damn trains that actually make stops like a 10-minute loading screen. I wasn’t really hooked by the bad attempts at humour or the weird little jingles that yo-kai types have, either, but I would still play a future Yo-kai game in hopes that the combat gets the lime-light it deserves. Until then, though, I can only recommend the title to a much younger demographic who could get the full experience, but probably still need their older sibling to help with those tougher fights.

While there's nothing fundamentally wrong with Psychic Specters - it is, after all, the most compre-hensive entry in the series, and Level-5's signature polish emanates throughout - yet it is also more than a little disappointing to see a fully-priced release add so little to the base game. Hardcore fans intent on purchasing should be aware that the new content is a little on the thin side, although it does make for a decent place for newbies to start their YO-KAI collection.

While the game is certainly colourful, vibrant and features varied creatures, it makes virtually no difference compared to its predecessor and it's too shallow to allow for a full, compelling and interesting immersion.

Even though there is a lot to do in the game, much of it is going back and forth, backtracking which, once again is another thing that got on my nerves. The gameplay is also quite repetitive and for the most part on the easier side. Just as I started to enjoy and appreciate the game for what it was, it was nearing the end. Because of its downfalls, I can’t see myself wanting to play this game more than once, but for those who are fans and want to experience everything within the world of Yo-kai Watch, there might just be enough extra content in here to warrant you playing through again? Yes, that is a question and not a statement. What kept me going, however, was how nice the game looks. The story is also surprisingly captivating and legitimately interesting and the humour, while at times a little juvenile and crude and did make me laugh out loud. The gameplay though just isn’t up to scratch.

Psychic Specters isThe original Yo-Kai Watch 2 versions (Fleshy Souls and Bony Spirits) were already huge improvements over the first game. Psychic Specters is the Pokemon Platinum/Crystal/Emerald of Yo-Kai Watch 2. Very similar story (there are one of two very minor differences) but where it truly shines over the original 2 versions is the post-game. The post-game has a lot added in Psychic Specters. If collecting Yo-Kai is your thing, there are also over 10 new collectible Yo-Kai compared to the original versions. If you don't want to start over, you also get the option of transferring your file from Fleshy Souls/Bony Spirits to Psychic specters and jump straight trough post-game.

This game is a must have for Monster Collector games.

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. Man this game is incredible...I mean I can't excuse that it excuse that even the deluxe version hasn't fixed all of the original flaws, but still this game really knows how to keep you invested. This version of Yo-Kai Watch 2 comes with a stream of new details. Adding new character animations and cutscenes to make everything feel more lively is a great addition. Whisper's eyes will bulge out and his design will look more intense whenever he's super discouraged and they don't just add this to the main story levels they also add this to many of the optional side quests to make everything more alive. I know that I have the ability to transfer my old save data and start back to where I left off, but why would I want to? Even before the premium version came out, I replayed this game multiple times just because it was so freaking fun. Sure backtracking can get pretty irritating, but this game just gets more and more fantastic the more you learn about it. This is a "road trip game", you'll be taking all sorts of fun rides as you explore this world's wonderful balance of realism and fantasy. With every hidden post game level, your heart races. Now we can explore the Yo-Kai amusement park, Gera Gera Land. And its just packed with "Spirited Away" references, heck its a great combination to watch Spirited Away before tackling the post game. The kitchen full of all sorts of strange dishes, the luxurious hot springs, and the somewhat eerie but pleasant train trip. Its all just beautiful and we even get a few more true final bosses for battle hungry players like myself. After competing the side quest the hot springs also double as great training grounds, you can battle Yo-Kai up to level frigging 99 to solve all of your grinding problems. You can also now travel to the Sengoku Period of Japan after clearing Whisper's origin story, which I'm also glad give free experience as a great way to give players a nice welcome back gift. And despite that these dungeons afterword only carry a few rare Yo-Kai challenges and high leveled common Yo-Kai their still really fun to explore. I'm getting some Inazuma 11 GO Chrono Stones vibes here. I'm just love when these games embrace their Japanese culture, its like I'm on some incredible vacation where I also have to solve mysteries and fight demons. While some challenges feel over level making grinding a pain, it's important to take the side quests and the hot springs into account, not to mention the extra boss fights also give you a heavy amount of EXP. It's easy to get frustrated when not everything is going your way and the backtracking begins to take a toll on you. But if enough patience this game delivers greatly. Heck a simple lucky Crank-a-Kai pull can really make your day. And speaking of which, rare Yo-Kai challenges I know from experience can be really painful. I'm talking about stuff like the Demuncher challenge, you can have a team of elite Yo-Kai and befriending techniques and somehow these guys still won't befriend you. After a while, soft reseting becomes a pain...so its best to listen to the news or something informative while your waiting just to make sure you're not just wasting your time staring at a screen. Still, I would like a meter or something telling how close I am to befriending with certain Yo-Kai, I guess it adds some realism to the game since your not catching Yo-Kai your befriending them. But...its still pretty damn irritating when it takes 52 tries to get Ray' O Light a Yo-Kai that's required to complete a quest and gain the ability to change the weather, I ask myself is it really worth it to clear these luck based challenges. Everything just slows down when I have a wait a real life day to complete a quest or spend hours trying to obtain a common Yo-Kai. I say, if said Yo-Kai brings identical brothers or sisters throw them all their favorite food just to increase your chances. And if you have to wait almost a week for Draaagin to move those damn rocks, I suggest you take a break from the game all together or go complete something else while you're waiting. Just don't let those daily challenges control you. Instead trying to complete absolutely everything in this game, focus on what you can complete, like the main story. If you get lost activate some handy-dandy markers to lead the way on the mini map. You can also scan for QR codes online to get tons of free stuff. Jibanyan really stands out with his radical new Soultimate moves. I say, focus on creating an ultimate Yo-Kai team designed for intense battles against super bosses like Orcanos, Kat Kraydel, and Kabuking. Obtaining their boss medals is perhaps one the greatest accomplishments in this game. And if your a master at Yo-Kai Watch Blasters, Hinozall will still drive you crazy. To think can fight the creators of the game is already move used in plenty other games. But this is the craziest version and I absolutely love it. Jump right into this wild ride of a game and feel free to come back any time. Full Review »
