If you liked the first Yo-Kai game then you will like this as well. The world is huge and there is no shortage of things to do. I would say making friends with Yo-Kai is easier this time, but it is still a bit random even with food. Cant put it down. Large map to explore, good story, very laid back experience. The yo-kai are pretty "unique"; many being humorous spins on everyday things. I see people comparing it to pokemon, but it shouldnt be. The similarities are scarce; its a very different experience.

Very good monster catching JRPG type game with hours of content. HUGE areas to explore and a captivating, adorable story with charming creatures and a unique, albeit a bit tedious battle system. Some flaws from the first game remain, but if you can look past the slight tedium the game offers, it's a solid entry into the humongous library of games the 3DS has to offer.

One of my favorite RPG games to date. Graphics are amazing for the 3DS and character design is well made for the yokai. Large map with multiple places and quick transportation with Mirapo. I love the fact that you can go back in time and that you can fight a rare yokai once a day until you befriend it. 10/10.

    Pros:
+I haven't played first game but story and lore is pretty easy to catch up (Level-5 using amnesia trope).
+Well-written funny dialogs. Yo-Kai are cute, intelligent and can speak unlike pokemons. +Main story is very long and interesting. A lot of side-quests and exploration. +Online battles and coop. +Very good graphics. No FPS drops (looking at you X/Y). Fast loading times.

    Neutral:
*Battle system is unique but pretty chaotic. Yo-Kai fight automatically but you can use their "ultimate abilities" through mini-games, swap fighters and set targets in real-time. Because everything happens so fast there is very little time for tactical approach to track buffs/debuffs and execute advanced strategies.

    Cons:
-Game is bloated with unnecessary systems. I'm somewhere mid-story and my watch already has 30 "apps", half of which add literally nothing to the game and just boring/annoying (bug catching, fishing, lottery, camera, terror, musicbox, criminals etc).
-A lot of running back and forth though massive city. No quick travel.

Yo-kai Watch 2 is very much a fan game. It looks like the first one, plays like the first one and, the story harkens back to the first one. I'd say if you liked the first one like I did, you'll like Yo-Kai Watch 2. If you didn't like the first one, then you wouldn't like this one. I just hope Yo-Kai Watch 3 adds variety, if it ever comes to the US...

This game is fantastic! The battles are fun and chaotic, the visuals are beautiful, and the Yo-kai are as lovable and charming as every! This game is truly the perfect sequel to Yo-kai Watch. The only things that hold it back are the slow pace of the beginning of the game and the confusing mess that is the Soulcery system.

Yo-Kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits is a great sequel to the already good Yo-Kai Watch. In Yo-Kai watch 2 you either play as Katie or Nate depending on choice. You have to go back in time to save the world from being taken over from dark Yo-Kai you work with Nathaniel (Your Grandfather) in the passed. The map is expanded from the first game and there is a bunch of stuff to do post game. I wouldYo-Kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits is a great sequel to the already good Yo-Kai Watch. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You wouldn't believe how excited I was when this little bundle of joy came out. Its a definitive sequel and an extended version of the first Yo-Kai Watch movie. That being said, there are a few things I think the first game did better. Like "Scribblenauts Unlimited", it gives us a much needed origin story on how things work in this world. But it also makes me wonder if Nate(Or Katie) was given a Yo-Kai Watch due to luck or destiny? It"s a mild nitpick, but it's just something to think about. I think this game has a lack of mysterious elements since everything is just explained in the end and in the deluxe version. But on the bright side, it's hard to complain when there's so much great content in this game. Bike races, time travel, dancing mini games, eating mini games, senior citizen assist, creepy tunnel exploration, whimsy dimension exploration, multiplayer Terror Time survival...CONTENT! CONTENT! CONTENT!
It's hard to put this game down, when the strong variety of gameplay keeps backing it up. And speaking of Terror Time, it's a lot harder now. But with careful planning with your mini map and assistance from various Baffle Board Yo-Kai the player is also a lot stronger. Planting mines and traps to stun the invincible Oni. I do prefer the original Terror Time, trying hard hoping to take down the manifestation of fears and worries some day, but this new version is still pretty good. But even though I love to praise this game their's still 2 major problems I need to unravel. In Chapter 6, deep within the San Fantastico beach cave, you are required to befriend 4 Yo-Kai in order to continue playing through the main story. That may sound simple, but it not, this game has really tedious luck based mechanics. Yo have to befriend Wiglin, Steppa, and Rhyth in order to continue, using their Yo-Kai Spot power to access the rest of the dungeon. And even if you toss them their favorite food, poke them for hearts, use a Yo-Kai with the Popularity Skill, and hit a wisp full of hearts. They stay still may not befriend you!

Making this whole process outright infuriating! And guess what? Just when you think it's all over, you have to start this chaos all over again in the next chapter! And if lets say, some lucky duck had already befriended the said Yo-Kai Flushback and had recently evolved him with a Mem-O-Vac, your still screwed. Yo-Kai Fusion results in no longer having the original Yo-Kai. This type of gimmick was acceptable in the first game because in Chapter 2 you needed to befriend any 3 Yo-Kai and even if it were to take a long time, this level helps you grind and get used to the game. Any required Yo-Kai are only used in optional quests, so if one just wanted to play this game for fun they could simply beat the main story without any luck based challenges blocking the way.

And even if you keep your composure and decide to befriend all of these Yo-Kai anyway, its somehow near impossible to do so because of this game's 2nd major flaw. I'm not talking about the Crank-a-Kai exclusive Yo-Kai, the Yo-Kai Spot exclusive Yo-Kai, the Infinite Tunnel exclusive Yo-Kai, the Version exclusive Yo-Kai, or the QR code exclusive Yo-Ka, or even Pandanoko's existence. I'm talking about those damned Digital Download exclusives! These little pests can only be obtained by buying the digital versions of the game. Meaning even if you already own all three game cards and have a fine collection of gaming awards, you still have to pay money more money in order to 100% beat the game. What a disgrace, it's bad enough adding even more luck based challenges than the first game, but this is a joke and I'm not laughing. On the other side, this is still slid game if you're just aiming to defeat the big bosses. And craft some ultimate Yo-Kai teams. Plus the quests in this game have a lot depth now, giving you a ton of awesome new adventures to go on. And some quests even open up new areas for that matter. This game really encourages exploration and its full of massive areas to explore. And all of the dungeons from the last game even make a return which a nice plus(:

And after everything is said and done with those tedious luck based challenges, I can just get back to enjoying myself and playing through the sweet post game. The Infinite Inferno makes a return and now its comes with a realm of stages called Divine Paradise. This is probably one of the best additions in the game, with a stupid powerful boss waiting at the end. A secret boss that creates one of the most difficult 3DS game challenges of all time. This game has been always fun to return to, I've now played through the main story 5 times now due to the simple fact that this game is great at keeping the player motivated. Heck, you can even befriend mini versions of the bosses now, including the almighty Wobblewok. Its just outright incredible what Yo-Kai Watch has done to the gaming world. With great comedy, action, characters, and world design, ultimately it's realm of wonder.

Really solid game, it vastly improved the first and it kept all the first one's bosses while still adding new ones. The past section of the game could have been done a bit better, since there is not a lot to do there, especially in postgame. Side quests are leally fun to do most of the times. Yo-Kai Watch 2 is not a bad game, it is a bad sequel. It is so good to newcomers to the franchise, that the fans need to be extremely patient to stay interested.

While the game doesn’t have the generation spanning appeal of the great Nintendo canon, what we have here is a very competent entry level role playing game for younger players. More mature players will find little to be impressed by with Yo-Kai Watch 2’s plentiful but basic offerings.
