WarioWare Gold is a sort of compendium of the series, with most of the microgames that are taken from the previous chapters. The result is a game that is aimed mostly to newcomers, with a strong deja-vu risk for veterans.

WarioWare Gold brings together a handful of new microgames, and throws in plenty of the series' best ones. It might not reinvent the wheel, but you'll be too busy jumping from game to game to notice.

A fun reminder of how great the WarioWare series is. [Issue#204, p.73]

Wario's relentless onslaught of microgaming still packs in a tonne of fun, especially for newcomers. For long-time Wario players, WarioWare Gold is a blessing and a curse. It’s nice to have a collection of games from across the franchise in one collection, but it also means that fatigue and familiarity can set in pretty quickly.

No amount of additional content could sweeten the deal here, though, as it’s simply the purposefully crude WarioWare format that’s to blame for it feeling out of its price depth. WarioWare Gold is the gold standard of WarioWare games, but it commands too high a price for what’s on offer.

A good package that pays tribute to the long running WarioWare series and a great opportunity for all the newcomers.

Like the gaming equivalent of binge-watching a playlist of the funniest Vine videos, WarioWare Gold provides some enjoyable short attention span shenanigans, particularly for newcomers. But in the absence any substantial new additions and a paucity of worthwhile extras, WarioWare Gold is more like a runner-up silver for long term fans of the series.

Wario Ware Gold feels like the very best of the series to this day: with a few new mini-games and many old ones, this episode cannot hide the feeling of redundancy. But with its 300 microgames, many crazy modes and a ton of WTF gadgets, every player can now experience the craziness of Wario Ware. Too bad the hardcore crew already knows most of its content.

I had a great deal of fun playing this game, and it saddens me that I can't give it a better score. However, I just cannot imagine justifying the $39.99 price tag of WarioWare Gold for the few hours of gameplay it has to offer. The story mode is about how Wario slaps together a bunch of games in the hopes to make a quick buck off the gaming industry, and I'm sorry to say this might be a case of art imitating life.

My main concern with WarioWare Gold, exacerbated by the lack of download play and only one real multiplayer gametype at that, is that it doesn't really have legs.

WarioWare Gold is just as wacky as the days of old. But with little content on offer outside the main story and no local download play on the 3DS, it’s a low blow for the party-game series.

WarioWare Gold slightly redeems itself only after you've suffered through the feeble punchlines of the Story mode and have unlocked Challenge mode.

After all these years, the game maintains a sense of humor that lands somewhere between Flaming Lips psychedelia and Ren & Stimpy gross-out humor. As such the 3DS then leaves not with a bang or a whimper... but a really loud fart.

Clever tweaks make this far more than a greatest hits package. [Recommended]
  3. It’s a shame this is a greatest hits compilation and not a sequel but seeing the full madness of the series in one game is a wonderful journey of imagination and surreal humour.

With the way Gold brings 15 years of WarioWare together and slathers them in new layers of weird, manic energy, it serves as a much-needed salute to this underrated, often genius series. More than that, it’s a fitting testament to the last 15 years of daring ideas and handheld consoles from Nintendo, an era that’s possibly coming to a close.

The microgames are as zany as ever, and although a lot of them this time are reused from past WarioWares, some have a different spin on them, such as the originally boss microgame Dungeon Dilemma now being standard length.

A notable difference here is the full voice acting, and it's spot-on. Charles Martinet is still fantastic as Wario, and the voices on the others are great too, really bringing their varied personalities to life. Also, you can dub over most of the cutscenes, which I found to be a cool feature.

A game that can be played either in short bursts or for a long period of time, WarioWare Gold retains the addictive, wacky gameplay that the series is known for. With cool extras such as minigames and the aforementioned dubbing, WarioWare Gold is a must-buy. If this is the last first-party original game for 3DS, then the handheld is going out with a bang.

As the box art suggests, there are around 300 different microgames, and there are very few that I didn't like. With such a variety of games, there are likely to be quite a few that you'll enjoy.

The story mode, while short, has cutscenes with full voice acting that's surprisingly decent, and I've grown to really like a lot of the characters. The cutscenes have also gotten a good laugh out of me.

Once you've finished the story mode, there's plenty of extra content to help you get the best bang for your buck. This includes a bunch of collectibles, extra modes, some additional mini-games, and a bunch of missions where you have to complete specific tasks, and you will be rewarded with coins.

As a Nintendo Switch owner, this game really shows that 3DS family systems still have some life in Q3 2018. It takes advantage of some of the 3DS's features that the Switch doesn't have. Such as dual screens, and the built in microphone.

In conclusion, I would recommend this game to anyone with a 3DS family system. It's really fun, whether you're playing in long sessions, or just want a little time waster, and has tons of extra content to give you a good bang for your buck.
