This game doesn't deserve the hate it gets. It a trillion times better than abomination that is sonic boom rise of lyric. It's fun and has other playable characters. The only problem really is that their is a ridiculous amount of backtracking that may put some people off from playing this game.

Nostalgia aside, I think the game is good, but not the best of Sonic games. But one thing for sure, It's way better than the Wii U port. (a.k.a "Rise of Lyrics")

The game takes alot to finish, and you always need to collect more crystals to get to another level, the bosses are ok, but the game itself not that good.

The level design is very good. The races are mass. The robotic earthworm phases brought a cool variation on gameplay. And changing characters was cool. But the game has lost some of its essence by making you explore the map and not focus on running faster and faster and not dying in the process. The Tails workshop is also cool.

But the game has lost some of its essence by making you explore the map and not focus on running faster and faster and not dying in the process. The Tails workshop is also cool.

Now, to be rejecting the stages to catch useless collectibles and can advance the story is awesome. The game has 34 medals and you need to get 30 to face the Boss final.

It is one of the Sonic that has more focus on the story (which I liked), only that I found it ultra mediocre, but nobody plays Sonic for the story. Good but rare Cutscenes and the dialogue between phases are cute, and the cool thing about it is that they add a little depth to the characters.

It's a different type of Sonic and it's definitely not bad. You just have to play it open minded and focus on having fun.

Nowhere near as awful as Rise Of Lyric, But Shattered Crystal is still bad.

What can i say it is just like sonic boom on the wii u but 2% better and that is a bad thing! Wait it is the same but with no bug or gitchs! This game is boring as heck

Shattered Crystal: this game is so bleak it makes me wonder why people give it 10 or 8. It's better than Sonic 2006 and Rise of lyric but it doesn't feel like a "Sonic game". Dimps where are you making the good Sonic handhelds?

Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystals is a boring, uninspired, disappointment to all Sonic fans and 3DS owners. The game is slow and uneventful, the gameplay is bogged down ugly visuals and generally just not enjoyable gameplay. Cons
    Movement and combat is slow
    Playing feels like a chore
Even the soundtrack is mediocre at best
    Villian is worse then Eggman

While it's better than Rise of Lyric in any sort of way, the problem with Shattered Crystal is that it never wants to be a superior Sonic Boom game that would be worth the adventure of a lifetime between this spin-off and the series in general.

While I mostly disagree with a lot of people about Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric, I can agree that this one is not good. At first, it seemed like it would be good. I know even the old Sonic games had slow down moments where you had to solve a puzzle, or figure out which way to go. But this is not done very well. It's still not the worst Sonic game, but I just did not like this one. It was very boring. The cut scenes look cool, but I can just watch those on YouTube. This is just not a good Sonic game. Expand

A great game. The controls work well, the music is catchy, and the game has a decent sense of humor. My only complaints are the story (which is kinda meh), the annoying level-locking system, and the whole game can be beaten in about 4-5 hours.

this game is one of the best sonic games ever created shame shadow is playable that would make it perfect i also enjoyed looking for the collectables and my only problem with it is STICKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE HER!!!!!!!!!!!!! shes like that girl at school constantly screaming and shouting replace sticks with shadow that would make it a better game and then it would get at 10

It is actually a fine game but still is flawed. The game is typical and your generic sonic game but the game is still good but try more sonic team please or sega.

I hate when people say this is a bad game just because of backtracking it is not even a lot! But I admit if you HATE backtracking you will not like it. Either way it was far from Perfect. Still recommend it though!

The game doesn't have any glitches or bugs that ruin the experience like Rise of Lyric. However the gameplay of Shattered Crystal can be described in one word: Boooooooooooriiiiiiiiiiiiing

I picked it up because I am on a Sonic kick and found it to be super fun. The controls are fluid, Sonic and team moves fast and swiftly. Yes, it is not a traditional Sonic game--but who cares. I was looking for a fun platformer, and I found it. The developers were trying something new and it is fun and works. I am looking foward to Fire and Ice. Enjoy! Expand

They totally changed the character, please don“t buy or it will just encourage the company to stick with this formula that is clearly not working, hope for a new good Sonic game

This game feels, looks and sounds amazing. Unfortunately if you are not a fan of backtracking like I am the you will probably hate this game. I'm on the third world and Just cant play the rest because I have to go back and collect crap from the past levels. Other than that gameplay is fun and reminds me of the classics.

I'll just say, if you like Metroid, then I think you'll like Shattered Chrystal. I say that because I thought of it a lot when I played this game. The 2D exploration and backtracking did get a bit tedious at times, but I was able to get through it because I was having fun. The controls, I'll admit, were a bit awkward at first but I quickly adapted.

This is just another 2D Sonic game with four characters. It's fun, fast, interesting, smooth, and the better play. I really recommend this version over the Wii U game. Still, pick it up cheap.

It is better then Rise of Lyric and other games like that, but is still bad from what I've played. I also got bored of it within a couple days. Just like Rise of Lyric and Mario Party 10. Also, to me, it made no sense what I was supposed to do after World 1. Yes, World 1. I hope Sega is better with the games this time, even though they were made by different companies.

Fast and frantic, this is a solid action adventure that reminds me sort of Metroidvania. Overall, a much better game than it's iff-fated Wii U counterpart.

The Wii U version of Sonic boom was actually fairly decent GGoldMile, but this one just makes it look a bit inferior. Good game, I love the adding of sticks to it, kinda makes me feel like I'm playing Sonic Rush Adventure but with a distant-relative of Marine being a playable character. Nostalgia.

Short version: Sonic does not go fast. It sucks.
Long version: Above, plus the tedious puzzles and slow dialogue, along with the occasional level-breaking bug, makes this game bad.

Although the Wii U was a cock-bucket of dick mr. Interestingshow, the 3DS version of the game was pretty good and definitely worth purchasing if you are a fan of Sonic or Metroid - 'cause it's feels like a classic Metroid game. It makes the Wii U version look like a cock-bucket of dick mr. Interestingshow. Story's a bit on the childish side though, but eh, it's pretty amusing.

Sonic Boom: Crystal Shards could have been, if not a good Sonic game, at least a decent 2D platformer, with its pros and its cons. But SEGA and Sanzaru Games have inexplicably decided to kill their own creature by adopting a really cheap trick: in order to progress, it is necessary to play the same levels over and over again.
