Severed is a game that benefits from hindsight, when all of the longueurs are forgotten and only the highlights remain. Those willing to put up with a bit of tedium and a high price point will find Severed to be a unique and memorable experience.

This may be to its benefit, but I think it is justifiable- clearly, this is the platform where it belong, and if it would be viewed favorably, it would be most so here. Among 3DS games, Severed is a masterpiece; more generally speaking, it is excellent, but not perfect.
In all respects I found Severed to be excellent. The visuals, while simplistic by modern standards, are stunning, and make good use of the 3D feature. Other reviewers' comparisons to Guacamelee! are apt- though this is a sickly, twisted world, not the vibrant one of that title. Severed's palette is that of a bloated corpse- fitting, given the setting. Sasha's brief encounters with more wholesome fare stand in stark contrast.
Combat is satisfying without being too difficult. The developers have done a good job in avoiding power creep as you progress, while still giving the sensation of empowerment. The combat in Severed the best I have ever seen on a DS system- individual motions are easy, yet require some degree of commitment. It is perfectly responsive. Combat mechanics grow more complex as one progresses, demanding a corresponding increase in skill, but never to the point of frustration. The whole feels fluid, and by the end of the game you should be able to navigate even the most challenging fights with grace.
The story is simple, but does not suffer for it. I will not be over-descriptive here. It should suffice to say that Sasha is a character analogous to Samus or Link- silent, reserved, yet sympathetic. Despite the simplicity of the story and the small cast, I found myself caring deeply for each character by the end.
The game's conclusion is an incredible moment of catharsis after the long, often-nightmarish journey you've undertaken. I cannot say more here without ruining the effect.
You should definitely give Severed a try. It's not the longest experience, but it is a complete one, and well worth the cost and effort to complete. If you own a 3DS, it is absolutely a must-play title.

It feels a lot like The World Ends With You minus the gear/clothing. The mechanics are neat and the controls are tight, I highly recommend it to any 3DS owner.

There isn't much story, but you don't need much. It deliberately leaves a lot vague and I feel like it's better for it. The art is visually interesting and easy to understand. The map system and upgrade systems are very well thought out. It could have used some button options for some of the abilities, but otherwise, very well done.

The only downside to this game is how short it is. It took me 8 hours to get all secrets and complete the game to 100% and I tend to be on the slow side, so I expect most people it will only take 6 hours.

Still, very worth the time to play.
