Monolith Studios offers us an adventure with unbridled humor, strategy RPG based gameplay, a very long duration and excellent Spanish translation. It is an ode to modern videogame in the form of references, winks and other links between franchises and industry.

Much like its predecessor, Project X Zone 2 is a lighthearted, fun time – and it manages to improve on that first game. [Issue #20 – March/April 2016, p.76]

Project X Zone 2 is a deeper, more satisfying experience as it is greatly improved from the original in every single way. It’s a shrine to a great cast of characters we’ve grown fond of over the years, carefully crafted by people who love these characters just as much as we do.

I don't know if this is the work of the localization team or the original scenario writers of the game, but gone is the disjointed structure of Project X Zone and here is an easy-to-follow storyline that even people who are totally unfamiliar with the series will be able to understand.

Project X Zone 2 is a great crossover, full of iconic characters and good and accessible combat system. Great dialogues, funny moments and convincing graphics for a game that's, although, too easy in many moments.

Project X Zone 2 is a better game than its prequel with tons of customization options, cool mechanics and fan-service jokes thrown together in a fun and colorful mess which unfortunately gets quite repetitive soon.

Project X Zone 2 is a brilliant follow-up that rectifies the sins of its previous game, even if it still shares a few of its flaws.

Project X Zone 2 is like The Expendable: a huge cast of superstar that somehow is in the same place to kick asses. It's not important that there is a good excuse to link them all, the main thing is that they have to make a lot of noises, explosions and cool stuff. And Project X Zone 2 does all this in a very good way.

Project X Zone 2 is a smash fest of several high-profile series that meet together in a gorgeous-looking tactical RPG. An indispensable game for those who follow the series featured here, it could prove to be too repetitive in some moments but dedicated players who will be attracted by the giant amount of fan service on display will have plenty to do.

Project X Zone 2 is a lot like its predecessor gameplay wise. And it's clearly not the most challenging Tactical-RPG available. But what the game lacks in difficulty, it more than makes up for in fan service. The game's cast of characters is incredible and its dialogue is both full of references and funny lines. If you love Japanese video games and their history, you'll probably love Project X Zone 2.
  14. 80
If you enjoyed the original title, then Project X Zone 2 should appeal because it does everything the first title did but better. If you are new to the series but a fan of some of the various franchises represented here, it is also worth a look.

Project X Zone 2 does not come to revolutionize the genre of strategy games. It doesn’t even come to change what its prequel did. Nevertheless the game is still an entertaining title that came to please all those fans that were impressed by the clash between the characters of the most famous series of Namco Bandai, Sega, Capcom, and now even Nintendo.

A single battle in Project X Zone 2 can drag on forever, and its overarching story doesn't make much sense. Still, its hilarious character interactions and chaotic fights embody what a video game should be: Fun.

The gameplay is a little shallow, but the real draw of Project X Zone is the localization as something like 90 characters are represented and the dialogue between them is a real hoot.

The sequel rights many of the first game's wrongs and is a nice, iterative step forward on the formula Monolith's been perfecting since 2005. For those who were lukewarm on the first PXZ, these improvements may make the difference.

Project X Zone 2 doesn't hide his "more of the same" nature, offering a well-proven gameplay. Nevertheless, the very low difficulty level and the plot bland, make the game exclusively suited to the great roster lovers.

Overall I enjoyed my time with Project X Zone 2. As a first time player of the series, there was a lot I liked about the core combat mechanics and even some of the story elements. However, I felt as if the game relied too much on players’ previous knowledge of the series’ story, and often felt lost when references were made throughout.

A fun romp if you recognise enough of the characters, with enough surprises to keep you guessing who will show up next. Fighting mechanic is simple and stays that way throughout, and hasn't changed since its predecessors on the PlayStation 2. Writing is focused on gags and references rather than staying true to original sources, but will entertain so long as you can endure a boob joke once in a while.

Project X Zone 2 is a videogame for videogame fans. It’s not likely to present you with a huge challenge, nor does it take an immense amount of skill to be any good at it, with the tactical gameplay a far cry from genre greats such as Fire Emblem or Shin Megami Tensei.

This strategy RPG is a clever way to let fans of the Sega, Capcom, and Bandai Namco library jump into their favorite worlds with ease since the events have little to no bearing in the canonical continuity. The cast is pure fun but is soon overwhelming, where normally standout characters can hardly get a word in on the already impenetrable narrative.
  42. 70
Project X Zone 2 still isn't the home run of a crossover one would hope for, but with a wittier script and improved gameplay mechanics, it's undeniably a step in the right direction.

But as enjoyable as this can be one battle each sitting, it overstays its welcome. But I’m happy it exists, and takes the concept that established characters can be played with like the Play-Doh these devs may have snacks on as children.

If the developers went back to the drawing board and designed a strategy RPG from the ground up and implemented the systems present in PXZ2 they would be off to a great start. However an overly long introduction that becomes boring after a few hours distracts from what is otherwise a decent game. If this game had a tighter story, trimmed up the dialogue, and improved upon its technical performance by reducing slowdown, it would be something special.

Project X Zone 2 gets a lot of mileage out of its huge cast. Characters interactions stand out where storytelling falls apart; seeing everyone’s impressive animations keeps combat alive when things get tedious, but the total package isn’t consistently interesting.
  48. 65
Project X Zone 2 does a great job improving on almost every element from the previous game. The problem is that they also made the game easier; this removed any strategy needed, and so the experience has become rather dull. It is admirable that they made so many improvements, but with the total lack of challenge, it was all for naught.

Project X Zone 2 is based on a huge amount of fan-service, and this part of the game is particularly successful. However, the conversations are far too long and too boring to maintain a certain tempo in our journey. Furthermore, this second episode is not tactical enough to be a really good T-RPG.

Project X-Zone 2 is a dream crossover on paper that falters in execution, failing to excel in any area beyond unabashed novelty. The quality of the cast and engaging juggling mechanic are the most you’ll likely get out of this crossover RPG.

In the end, it comes down to how well you can slug through the shallow and unchallenging tactics and the annoyingly drawn out battles to experience such fan-service love, its huge list of references, and its desire to bring a title for video game fans of things Japanese.

For fans of Namco Bandai, Capcom, and Sega, Project X Zone 2 is full of the characters you love, in-jokes you'll laugh at, and over the top attacks and pairings that would make a FanFiction.net author blush. However, if you're just looking for a turn-based RPG to sink your teeth into, there's better to be had on the Nintendo 3DS.

You also have separated resources to use activable skills, defense and counter attack called Sp, its different from XP which you use to do specials and multi attacks so this way you can activate skills and do a special at the same time

the missions or chapters dont feel boring or tedious like in the first one, why? because there a wide variety of new objectives (even after doing so some chapters ask you to clean up the enemies to finish ) and they are not so long, all chapters last for an hour on average except the last one, in most of your misions you can only deploy 10 units instead of having 19 of them ( you have to select them like in fire emblem ), thats another factor on why the chapters are shorter, but the game dont feel short at all its a 40h game almost guaranteed, ive hit chapter 35 in within 5 days and it felt it was like nothing, dont feel anymore that boring feel of pxz1 and having to force myself to finish it, i just want to play more pxz 2 is what i feel

the story is average but easy to follow, dont expect much in this field because is just an excuse for a massive crossover

the music is BRUTAL, songs are awesome and much better quality than the first one, and if you know them from before you are going to feel that sweet nostalgia

the rooster is nice once you start to meet them and search a bit for info of theyr original games in cause you dont know all of them, but can also read theyr bio in the crosspedia

    if pxz1 is a 7 this one is easily a 8,5 or 9

so lets finish with a recap

-Improved gameplay with new combat mechanics
    -Awesome and high quality music
-Lots of classic and more modern characters to love even the ones you dont know
-Sometimes funny jokes that will make you laugh

if the game has a bad thing is that sometimes the dialog is unnessesarily long but you can skip it by pressing Start if you dont want to read but i recomend to read it because of the story and jokes

If you enjoyed the first one, you'll enjoy this one, and I'd recommend either to a new player. There's a few new things here, but you can get by without them for the most part. Do not be confused, this game is marketed as strategy, but its extremely light strategy with very little at stake. It's very welcoming to newcomers of the RPG world and has little to offer veterans. If you're looking for a serious RPG, get Fire Emblem. If you're looking for easy, brain waste fun, get this.

This game is really just an excuse to see several of your favorite characters hanging out together, and the dialogue is as hilarious and well written as the first. Animations are gorgeous, the ridiculous sex appeal is cranked up to 11, and the plot is your traditional 'bad guy X wants to destroy the world" but its fun.

I can sum this game in a word (or two, I never understood how you type it): Fanservice. And not of the boob type.

Sequel to the decent Project X Zone, this game is essentially a service for all the fans by making a huge cross over from different games from 3 companies (namco, capcom and Sega) and putting them into a single place for the sake of fanservice in a context of tactical rpg with not much depth BUT enough to keep you entertained.

While the first game lacked a lot of stuff (the fights were long and boring, skills were hard to use cause of XP shared among all characters, no shop to buy items and mediocre writing), PXZ2 improves a lot over the predecessor in so many ways: fights are fast and hardly takes 3-4 attempts on bosses to kill one; each solo and pair unit have customizable passives AND upgradeable attacks that you can spend points on; there's a shop to buy items after each fight and the lower screen is more useful than before, showing more information during the combat and also during your turn.

One of the best things however, it's the writing: It's simply hilarious to find so many puns around games (thank you Xiaomu!) as well as lots of fun interactions between the characters: Vashyron hitting on all the girls around, Chris and Jill hoping to learn the "Big no Jutsu" from Valkyrie, or Lucina wanting to dress like Alisa...and her questionable outfit. It's essentially a fanboy/fangirl's wet dream and unlike the previous the writing is excellent, fun, well thought and I just keep smiling at the references.

Plus, there's Segata Sanshiro and If I don't say this, he'll force me to buy a Sega Saturn...

But jokes aside, as you can probably see, the game has one major issue: it's fanservice. Do you like these characters? Do you know them? Do you want them together in a fight? If all of these are answered with a no then you see the issue here. I know most of the characters so I get the jokes and references but not everyone will. And to those I'm afraid this game will have nothing to offer and will lose half of its appeal, especially because of the lack in the tactical department.

Yeah this game is a tactical rpg afterall, usually a very complex type pf game where you got a lot of customization going on: sadly the game doesn't really have that much and essentially becomes a matter of picking the most convenient skill and the best armor to be effective. Sure, some combinations are better than others but it doesn't make a huge difference: it's a very barebone tactical rpg that despite not being deep, it's actually pretty good for beginners who are sucky at it (like me).

So overall, I do recommend this game but ONLY to those who 1) played the first game and 2) to those who at least enjoy the characters portrayed in the game.

The story in it isn't all that special but there are some references to the first (keyword being "Some") and a lot of the characters are from the previous game as well, or simply swapped to Solo (essentially a support) and put into Pair (2 characters that are into one unit)

For example instead of Zephyr&Leanne we have Zephyr&Vashyron, with Leanne being Solo, or instead of Dante&Demitri we have Dante&Vergil; other returning couples are Chris&Jill, X&Zero and a few more in the likes of Chrom&Lucina, Kiryu&Majima, Hotsuma&Hiryu. Of course I can't forget mentioning Phoenix Wright&Maya as....solo (UUUURGH WHYYYY)!

The cast is big but this time you'll mostly bring 10 to units with you, making the fights less convoluted and faster than the previous game (you could have above 50 units in PXZ1, including your units).

In the end, this game is good: I'm having a blast and it's everything I could ever want for a sequel, but if you're not a fan or simply don't care about these characters the RPG elements won't hold you long enough to feel rewarded, despite being quite a good tactical rpg for beginners.

If you're looking for more complex tactical rpgs, this isn't the game for you.
If you're looking for more serious story, this isn't the game for you.
If you're looking for more original games, yet again, this game isn't for you.

I can best describe this game as a guilty pleasure more than anything else so, pick it for what it is.
