It had both small and mid size additions (like hidden bottles with messages to deliver and daily secrets in all areas after you beat them, or the photobooth, such a simple thing yet me and my friends would spend hours on it) and big ones (like the postgame that is so unbelievably stuffed with things to do, only johto's kanto visit can compare), so even in the first island you're drowned in all the additions to a previous game that was already one of the best pokemon games.

Theres very few tutorials and due the above, DO NOT listen to people saying lies like it has "n hours tutorial" because those are trols who never played pokemon, months ago one tried to lie this to me in my facebook before I bought it but I checked a youtube lets play before stating mine and found out he was lying (in fact I saw a very recent review repeating this same objective lie so I think its a trol/pokemon hater bait they do, DO NOT listen to them as looks like they heard the game has a few cutscenes and thought they were "tutorials" (because they dont know they are for story development), but theres only 3 small actual tutorials the whole game (check a video yourself to see its truth). The actual story is very engaging, I liked it as much as the one in my Pokemon Black playthrough.
Recommend the game to anyone who wants a good pokemon game honestly, even if you already played Sun, because every route has at the very least one new thing added in to discover and explore, usually more than one, even things like the first two times you meet team skull were fully changed and replaced. Even if you dont care about pokedex filling and battling, the story is worth it. Do not listen to trols as you may be missing a very good experience, in fact this was my favorite pokemon game the last decade and half

Combining all of this with the fact that a small handful of new, non-mythical Pokémon have been added mid-generation for the first time in the series, and that the Pokédex has been expanded to natively include over 400 Pokémon catchable in the games without trading, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon have managed to make the region of Alola feel even more alive that it did before – and that’s quite the achievement.

In some ways, it feels like these games have come too soon; Pokémon Sun and Moon are still so fresh in our minds and we can’t help but feel that the Ultra versions would have felt more special – and therefore easier to justify purchasing – if a little more time has passed. You’d be forgiven for not wanting to jump back into the same world again so soon but, in their own right, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are truly incredible entries to the series that deserve to be sitting amongst the elite Pokémon titles. If you’re ready for another trip around Alola’s beautiful islands, this is the way to do it.

The only redeeming things about this game are the excellent postgame features, but they should have just made those DLC for the original SM or did what Yokai Watch did and allow you to transfer over your save data from the base games to ultra. Absolutely terrible, but can be fun for people who are new to Gen 7 Pokemon as there are many new really solid features. However, to get to those features you have to slog though a boring 30+ hour linear story where the first 10 hours are just tutorials. This was tolerable in the base SM as the hype was real back then and the story was interesting then. After spending 200+ hours with the original SM, this game just wasn't worth it to complete. 4/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pokémon Sun/Moon was one of the best experiences I had in the Pokemon world! The region is great, vibrant colors everywhere, Alolan form Pokemon, customization of your character and despite not having the best story all around, it was still enjoyable. Still, when Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon was announced I was expecting something along the lines of Black/White 2, a sequel to the previous games. Instead, and the trailers of the game show that they advertised a "different" Alola region. Was to be expected the same timeline but eventually, "mid-game" as the director of the game said, "the timeline will change". Unfortunately, in a game with 4 islands, the changes start in the last one and until then the story continues pretty much the same as in previous games, except for the addition of a new team and some new pokemon. The issues of Sun/Moon were fixed but this still felt more like a DLC and not a full game. It was the first time ever I felt buyers remorse with a Pokemon game and I regret a lot paying full price for it. Still, if you never played Sun/Moon you should go for this one. Expand

The Tutorial basically never ends, the game is bogged down with cutscenes that I couldn't give a **** about, and it's probably the easiest pokemon game yet. The series just gets worse and worse each generation. There's no focus on gameplay, with almost all the focus on dressing up your character and waifu-pandering.

And, Oh my... The Music of the 7th gen is one of the Most TERRIBLE thing i have seen in a video game ! (Still not worst than Sonic Boom).

So this game have like almost NOTHING New : Just Two more Legendaries and a story that have changed just a bit and this game is so disgustingly easy ! (Just like Sun and Moon) Team Rainbow Rocket is pretty much the only good NEW thing about this version.
But in the end, i just realized how Lazy GAMEFREAK are for the Fans right now. Always aiming for young audience only and Never making a Pokémon Game for Adult ! (And i mean by that, taking the game more seriously, i don't mean sexuality or extreme violence). But everyone is going to buy it, because ITS POKÉMON of Course !

In the End, i really wish they were less a lazybones and start making a Revolutionary Pokemon like i always dreamed about it. But this game show me how FAR we are from this. Please do NOT buy this game. They don't deserve your money.

And with a history of changing the sequel style games up so much that they are almost brand new games in the past, (like Black/White 2 or even with the old Crystal game), this just seems pathetic in comparison. Remember when Pokemon games were mainly about collecting little monsters and battling them, with a little sprinkle of story here and there? Well, that's not how it is anymore, apparently. When I say you will be stopped every time you enter an area, old or new, you will have to watch a 10 minute cut scene, I am not exaggerating. It feels like I'm playing one long, poorly written cut scene instead of playing a Pokemon game. The only good thing about these games are the new totem stickers (essentially a better collectible than the Zygarde cells in Sun and Moon) and the many new older gen Pokemon now available on the islands. Extremely tedious cut scenes and storytelling; i fell asleep a few times trying to pay attention to them. You can't go more than 10 steps without a cut scene during the beginning of the game. Once you beat the elite four the game gets astronomically better, but that's a ridiculous amount of time to suffer through story mode. Also extremely structured, no more wandering around the world. You go where the game wants you to, no other options. Tutorials galore, there needs to be a "i already know this" option in game. The new pokemon designs are awesome, and the color palette and graphics of the game are appealing.
As someone who's been playing pokemon since hoenn, this is easy the worst entry to the series. Returning gamers and fans should avoid this, but new players and young children will love it. Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon is still fantastic, especially since the original was a major shake-up to the decades-old Pokémon formula. The update may be overly samey to someone who has already played Sun & Moon, but it does improve upon the base game in several ways. Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are the definitive versions of Generation VII. Fans that already made the trip to the Alola region might find that it takes a while to get to the juiciest new additions to the game, but diehard Pokémon fans and those that held off on Sun and Moon will find a lot to enjoy. The games are truly robust experiences, and the new additions help flesh out a game that was already quite strong. I could detail more about the story changes and enhancements, Mantine surfing or Team Rainbow Rocket, but not much else needs to be said. This is a terrific Pokémon experience that has only gotten better.
