A remarkably well put together game; it's very clear that the developers spent a lot of time ensuring that its various elements were carefully tuned. The difficulty curve is almost perfectly judged, the controls are tight, the graphics are simple and effective, and the map is enjoyable to explore.

Though boss battles may be unoriginal, the nostalgic music, gameplay and overall tone make Ninja Smasher a smash hit.

Ninja Smasher intends to bring back the spirit of 8-bit platformers and it certainly mastered its conventions: the plot is minimal as the player sets off through a maze-like map, with a difficulty curve that is very well adjusted to the player's own development as more items and techniques become available.

I think this game is great, and I feel like you're getting more than your money's worth for the $5 price tag. The controls are sharp, and II think this game is great, and I feel like you're getting more than your money's worth for the $5 price tag. The controls are sharp, and I found the basic gameplay to be surprisingly satisfying. The graphics work great for what they are.

I would describe the game as being a metroid-light style of game, offering about 4-5 hours of gameplay on your first play through. After completion, the game offers three new characters, upping the value of giving the adventure another go.

As the map fills out, and you gain new powers, things can get a bit confusing as to where to go next, and you're likely to lose track of where some items were located, after you've obtained the power required to collect them. The game does occasionally give you a [?] sign to help with this problem, but it feels inconsistent.

As far as sound goes, the music get repetitive quickly, and basic sound effects are limited, or sometimes even non-existent.

After completion, the game also offers touch controls, but I found these to be terrible. I'd imagine these are the controls featured in the mobile versions of the game, and I feel they dull this game's shine to the point where I would stay far away from any version where they are the only control option.

I would suggest this game to anyone who likes metroid-style, or action games. I was really surprised with how much I got into it.
